SAT score to nearly assure acceptance?

With an unweighted GPA of around 3.6 with a total of 12, maybe 13 if I take extra online, AP classes. Rest were honors, with exception of 2 or 3 regular classes. And 3 years Lacrosse + Research, + over 100 volunteer hours etc...various clubs throughout 4 years

Scoring around 2040-2080 on practice tests. Trying to bring it up to a 2100..

What are my chances of getting in?

Also does it matter that I've been to three different high schools(With valid reasons).

I also have an older sister that went there..

Please chance me

Also how do they view grade forgiveness? I was sick during finals and I had transferred schools after 1st semester so it was hard, but the classes has been retaken with an A.

--

I am literally going insane over my increasing anxiety for getting admitted to UF. I find myself constantly thinking about whether or not I'll be accepted, and seeing many public school students getting rejected it discourages me even more, and I'm starting to see it as a reach, which shouldn't be the case because I score 95 percentile on SAT and have taken many AP classes. I really need guidance here. I'm just thinking that the grade forgiveness part could change their decision... They should view the person as a whole and see that I added extra effort be taken the course all over again admist all of the other work.

why don’t you have any scores yet?

anyways, i’d be very surprised if they’ve ever turned someone down with 12 ap exams. stop sweating it so much. UF is not a reach school for you. also, there is nothing you can do at this point to increase your chances besides do well on the SAT. do not get worked up about things you have no control over. study well, make sure all your paperwork is in, and forget about it until febuary.

I got a 1930 in the June SAT… but Im retaking Oct 1

and thanks for the advice… I will literally be sad for the next four years if I dont get in, but If I do, ill be the happiest person alive…

you’re fine. trust me. if you dont get accepted, its not something you did. its the stochastic nature of the process. if you really want validation, apply to schools like michigan state, UCLA, UCBerkely, miami, emory, new college. even if you have no intention of going to any of those, i’d be surprised if you didn’t get into at least a couple of them and you can hang your hat on that. also, apply to schools where you will definitely get in at, like UCF/USF/probably FSU.

Indianguy:

My son is in almost the same exact situation.

3.6 unweighted

14 APs by the time he graduates high schoo in June.

But 2300 on his SATs, and 34 on his ACT.

So you would think he is pretty much a shoe in.

However, the fancy private counselor we hired says that this is not the case.

Further, I have seen posts on CC where kids say they were rejected at UF, but got into University of Virginia, or were rejected at UF, but even got into MIT !!! I also once saw a post on CC entitled something like (2100 SAT, but got rejected by UF), and many people posted messages that this happened to them too.

So sorry to increase your anxiety, but we are in the same boat.

The UF admissions process, from what I have read, is very subjective (they call it “holistic”), and they have various considerations they take into account when building their college class. (socio-economic background, race, first in your family to go to college, where in Florida you are from, ECs)

And it would be a crapshoot in any case. My brother’s kid got wait listed at Syracuse, but got into Cornell. A friend’s kid got rejected at Boston College, but got into Michigan and Washington University. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the results.

Further, given the tough economy and the fact that private colleges cost $50,000 a year, many people who in the past might have gone to an expensive private college might instead opt for UF.

I guess try and write the best essay you possibly can. That’s all you can really due at this point.

However, I can tell you that my kid raised his ACT and SAT scores a lot, with zero studying, so mere familiarity with the exam might help you.

But I hate to say it, but you have legitimate reason to worry. You will PROBABLY get in, but probably does not give you much solace.

If my son knew he was getting in for sure, he would be able to significantly reduce the number of schools he is applying to, and just apply to UF, and a few super reach schools.

Now, if you were a good outside linebacker…

Ok ^

Your son is DEFINITELY in assuming he has been active in his school/community. The average SAT is mid 1900s at UF. And there have been students that are mediocre from horrible high schools getting in all across Florida. They typically accept students in top 5% of their class.

I know there are various stories about getting rejected by UF while getting in better schools, but the reason behind those is that on their essay or some aspect of their application, they don’t show much interest in the school, which gives UF the reason to believe that they won’t yield and might switch schools even after being admitted. When you think about it, there has to be a reason for their rejection, otherwise they would appeal it and go crazy about the rejection. Most likely they weren’t that interested.

Then again, if your son has zero extracurricular activities, then he has a chance of getting rejected, as I have a family friend that was valedictorian of a smaller public school with a 2170 SAT that got rejected because she didn’t do ANY extracurriculars at all/volunteer.

As of right now I just plan to keep straight A’s this year with 6 AP classes and hope for the best essay on the application, (with writing being my highest SAT subsection, aiming for 800, I predict it will be very good)
