SAT Score

I have applied to NYU ED, and my SAT score I submitted was a 1290. I actually had one of the highest scores in my class, excluding one person who got a 1410. I have a lot of ECs and a High GPA, but based on my SAT score, do I have a shot of getting admitted?

A 1290 is not considered competitive for NYU. You may think you are in the higher score range locally, but on a national level, there are more people with a better SAT score applying to NYU. The average admitted SAT score is 1410. The average GPA was 3.7. So if you had a higher GPA than 3.7 to balance your SAT score (around 4.0+), I would think you might actually have a chance.

Update: Just saw your recent post where you posted you weighted GPA (3.99). This is useless as NYU looks at unweighted GPA only. However they will take into account the rigor of course load and since you have taken 9 AP’s, that will work in your favor. In another perspective, one applicant has maintained a 4.0 throughout high school, didn’t take any AP’s, and has an weighted/unweighted GPA of 4.0. You on the other hand, took AP’s, challenged yourself, (assuming) and did well in those classes. This will work in your favor, despite having a lower GPA.

I have a 3.78 unweighted, but that is due to getting Bs in my English and Spanish class, when every other year I averaged over a 4.0 (weighted). But thanks for the info!

Even with those stats, NYU is pretty selective. I do think you might actually have a chance, but there’s a greater possibility that you get rejected. Hopefully you were pretty passionate in your application.

Thank thank you very much for the help! One last question however. Would applying early give me a little extra boost to get in?

it depends on the school, but usually the EA acceptance rate is slightly higher. But very minimal.

Thank you for the info!
