If any of you guys took the SATs as freshmen, how were your scores and how are they now?
I took them in December and I got a 1910

Math: 560
Writing: 650
Reading: 700

I think for a freshman my writing and reading are ok but, as you can see, math is my weakest point. I haven't taken algebra 2 yet so i'm hoping that will help. By the way, i didn't do any studying for this test.. i didn't even know/look up the test format until like two nights before. and i took a practice test the night before. i probably could have done better, but anyways, do you guys have any tips?

Don’t worry too much, writing is very easy to improve. I’d say start studying now (my biggest regret is not starting earlier), and by then time you take it in junior year, it’ll be natural. Math will improve with time, you might have to work a little harder than most people but I’m positive that you’re capable of getting that 800. Good luck!

A lot of people are accepted to great colleges with scores like those as a junior/senior, and since you’re only bound to improve from here, you have absolutely nothing to be worried about. (: You did really well on the reading. In my opinion, reading usually takes the longest time to improve on, so that’s definitely an achievement. As for writing and math, your score will most probably improve dramatically once you’ve taken a few high school English and math courses. You still probably don’t know some of the standard English rules that you’ll learn in school in the next few years, and like thejourney said, writing is fairly easy to improve on. In my opinion, the math score isn’t completely accurate until after you’ve taken Algebra 2. Once you’ve taken that, and brushed up on your Algebra 1/Geometry, your math score will improve a lot. Still, don’t take anything for granted, so buy some SAT books, and do some practice tests. Freshman year is the perfect time to start studying for the SAT, so by the time junior/senior year comes around, you’ll be set. Good luck!
