SAT scores keeping me out?

I recently took the SAT in December and completely bombed it with a 1910. Can this be ignored with an ACT of 33? Or did the SAT score just ruin my chance based solely on scores?

If you are allowed to, just submit the ACT score, which is good.

I think your SAT score would indeed cause you harm.

But even if they see your relatively bad SAT score, they will still see the 33 ACT. So I don’t think your SAT score is fatal.

…what if my SAT scores were already submitted the day i got the results?

Should I try to retake the SAT in January? Or is that too late to be accepted?

If you list Penn Admissions CEEB code on the January SAT Registration, then they will get your scores in time.

damn, how the F do u do that well on the ACT?!

no, they won’t keep you out. The admissions officer will take your highest score (ACT). They will see your SAT’s, but they will put the emphasize on your ACT’s because that is your highest score.

Does penn (and other universities) take into account any scores other than the highest superscore for SAT and composite for ACT? Do they really look at EVERY test date’s scores? Or just the highest? Basically, Im wondering if a low score that was improved A LOT would be looked down upon

@phila45: It definitely WON’T be. I went from a 2130 to a 2330 on the SAT, I sent all my scores (SAT, SAT-II, AND ACT) and got in! So an improvement looks GREAT—and they look at your highest score. They just want to make sure you didn’t take the SAT 8 times—this is why you need to send all scores (that, and improvement = +).

And remember—if you “touch” the test (basically, take it and get a score), you MUST send it to Penn Admissions…

Thanks, great answer!! And Congrats on acceptance! :)

Thanks phila45! Best of luck to you! :)

I thought that the ivy leagues only care about ACT?

I laughed.

@Collin1995: Nope. SAT, ACT, SAT-II…try to do as well as you can on all of them!

Don’t stress about it! Scores aren’t everything! :)

“Don’t stress about it! Scores aren’t everything!” Very true! My friend had a 2180 SAT and got into Harvard EA, which was incredibly competitive (Harvard deferred more than 2/3 of their Early Applicants). But, he did research over the summer at MIT. So, I’d say, if your scores are a little low, make sure the rest of your application is top-notch!

Scores are just one part of your application; they are definitely not everything! I took the SAT three times and improved by 200+ points each time I took it. And I completely agree with @hardworking21. Even if your scores aren’t that great, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance of getting in!
