SAT scores

Hi guys, I am a junior from Singapore. I just did my SAT and i got a disappointing 2010, however on the 1600 scale i got 1390 (my 620 in writing pulled my down on the 2400 scale). I am interested in engineering especially in universities like Georgia Tech, Urbana and Cornell. I am just wondering whether this score bombs my chances of getting into any of these universities. I also am doing the IB and am hoping to get a 42 out of 45.

I am a national chess player in Singapore. I qualified for the Singapore National Junior Squad on several occasions and in the coming months am going to qualify for the High Performance League of Singapore which is quite prestigious. I also drove my school to create a chess team and I was the person who brought it from obscurity to a recognized activity.

I also do 1 hour of service in a nursing home every week and 1 and a half hours of teaching grade 3 students math every week.

This isn't really a "chance me" post but I would really like you guys to give me your opinion on whether or not I can aim for universities like Georgia Tech, CMU etc without retaking the SATs

Sat scores: MAth -740, Reading -650, Writing 620

Please guys I would really like some advice and insight :)

C’mon guys… anyone? :(

Since you have good extracurriculars already you should just focus the rest of your time on SAT.
If your science and math 2 SAT’s are good ~750, or you have good IB or AP scores, then you may stand a chance.
In my opinion, for undergrad admissions you just need decent extracurriculars but stellar grades for most top schools. Georgia Tech is heavy on grades; their transfer application doesn’t even ask for any essay or extracurricular activity, just put your grades down~ Although their freshman app does

I am also considering Cornell because they only look at cr+math and i have a ~1400 /1600 which is in range for Cornell. THis was my first time anyway so im hoping on redoing it and getting atleast 1450  This is early decision btw

Which field of engineering specifically are you interested in?
I think your SATs are more than enough for UIUC (Top 5 Engineering) but it doesn’t hurt to retake them  (I got in UIUC with 1450)
