I took the SAT in the fall of my junior year and got a 800CR/730 W/680 M with no preparation.

When I retook this fall as a senior I worked really hard to prepare...I read silverturtle's guide, did every Blue Book test, went through over half of Dr. Chung's guide, did 7-8 more Collegeboard tests online. And I was consistently scoring around 800CR/800 W/740

Then I get my scores back today.....800CR/720 W/690 M!!! Erg! How is possible that all that preparation did almost nothing to my score?!?

Does anyone have any advice? Maybe it just wasn't my test? Maybe it was just stress? Maybe I need to prep a different way? I'm just so disappointed!

I feel you. My scores junior year were 630 CR/750 M/770 W, but when I took it again in October, I got only 660 CR/750 M/750 W. I took classes this summer and went through a countless amount of college board and barron’s tests. This is really frustrating.

Stop testing, maybe try the ACT. The SAT isn’t designed to be studied for (it is more of an aptitude test than an achievement test). Your experience is the norm, the people reporting 300+ score jumps are atypical.

Thanks for all the advice! My plan is to take the remainder of the online course (I have a couple tests left), work through the rest of Dr. Chung’s, read Barron’s 2400, read Silverturtle’s one more time…and then test in November. If that’s not successful I will take the ACT…I do believe that the SAT CAN be studied for (how else to explain the increase of my score on practice tests?) but perhaps I’ve plateaued for some reason or another. Best of luck to everyone in a similar situation! May November bring us 800s!!

To anyone else who is frustrated at a lack of improvement in their scores: After thinking that I had plateaued at a mediocre superscore of 2220 (800CR/730W/690M), I got my November scores back…and received a 2360!!! (800CR/800W/760M). Don’t give up!! It’s sooo possible to improve - you can do it. Just keep working.
