SAT Subject Math 1 or 2?

I know there's a common notion that people who take math 1 are dumb, but the truth is I'd need to do a lot of additional prep to where I want to be in terms of scores for math 2 since I'm from Canada and the curriculum is really different. I'm not going into science or math or engineering (probably political science or something arts-related). I'd need to take the tests in either October or November since I want to apply early to a school.

Would this be a big issue for colleges?

Math 2 is considered to be harder so all universities prefer it to 1. So if you’re applying to universities like the Ivies,MIT,Caltech, take Math 2

SameerHussain is correct, most competitive colleges like to see Math level 2 on your application as it is much harder than level 1 (which is extremely easy) and indicates a better measure of your mathematical abilities. Getting a 800 on math level 1 is almost nothing, as the very same person could get a score on the level 2 exam <700 due to the different nature of the topics covered in math level 2. I would recommend you to prepare for the math level 2 exam if your mathematic abilities are above average, but be warned, you should be aiming for a score of 800 on the math level 2 as a high percentage of test takers (usually people good at maths) receive a perfect score.

in my country, the students aiming for medicine are not required to take math in 11th and 12th grade (encouraged not to as it is considered unnecessary if taking medicine). So, i only did math for 2 yrs of high skool (freshman and sophomore). Now i am planning on taking the subject math to make up for the fact that i only have 2 years of high skool math. would it be advisable for me to take math 1 or math 2? math has always been one of my strongest subjects so both of them would be fine. just trying to see if i can reduce my work load and concentrate on my other subject sats.

If you’re proficient in pre-calculus and more advanced topics, it’s probably best to go for Math II. Otherwise, go for Math I.
