Hi, guys! I took the Math 2 test twice my sophomore year (bad idea) and got really low scores. 600 the first time and 630 the second. I have also taken US History and Biology since then (730 and 750, respectively) and I feel pretty comfortable with those scores. I know most colleges that do require or recommend subject test scores only want 2 subject tests. My question is, should I retake the Math 2 for a third time? I'm pretty sure if I cracked down on the studying I could get 700+. The two times I took it before I wasn't ready; I didn't even finish 10+ questions. The reason I ask if I should retake it is because many of the top tier schools do want a math subject test as one of the subject tests along with another of your choice. Is it worth it to retake it or would it look bad that I took it 3 times?

Your U.S. History and Bio Subject test scores are quite good.

I think you should take the Math Level 2 Subject test again. Use Score Choice to your advantage so that college admissions committees won’t see the lower scores you posted as a sophomore.

If a college requires a math Subject test + another Subject test, then only send the highest Math Level 2 score and your Bio score.

If a college requires any two Subject test scores, then simply send your two highest scores.

Aside from time spent studying, money invested in books, and test registration fees, I can’t think of any disadvantage to taking the Math Level 2 Subject test one more time.

Good luck!

Okay, thanks! I’ve just heard that you should only take a subject test twice… Also, a lot of schools ask for the SAT+2 subject tests OR the ACT with writing. My SAT was a 2180 (760 CR, 740 Math, 680 Writing) and my ACT was a 32. Considering I did better on the SAT than the ACT, I should send my SAT scores, right? But then the colleges that require ALL SAT scores be sent in would also see my Math 2 scores. Would it be better to just report my ACT score or report all of my SAT and SAT subject test scores? If I do take the Math 2 test again and I don’t do significantly better, it’ll look pretty bad, won’t it? But, my math score for the SAT I was decent I think. Would that cancel out the mediocre Math 2 score?
