Most of the colleges I’m applying to accept the ACT w/writing in lieu of SAT and subject tests. I’m submitting my ACT to colleges. Despite this, my parents continue to force me to subject tests.
Is there really a point to? They claim that applicants submitting ACT still submit multiple subject tests. I’ve already taken two: Math 2 and Chem. Bio and Physics this Saturday(so scared! )
My scores on my past subject tests are 770 Math 2 and 720 Chem. Do I need to take further subject tests? Is it really “helping” my application if I’m already submitting ACT w/writing? Also if my scores are less than 750 is that bad?
On Saturday, here is what you should do (remember that you can take any Subject Tests on test day):
If you think you have a shot at getting 800 on Math II, retake that test. However, 770 is a fine score, so do not feel compelled to retake.
You should try to get the science Subject Test score above 750. If you are expecting scores below 750 on Biology and Physics, there is no reason for you to take those tests because your Chemistry score is already sufficient. You also have the option to retake Chemistry.
You have a 35 ACT, right? Your parents are simply extremely wrong. There’s no school on this planet that will reject you for having a 35 in lieu of someone who had a 36 or a 2380SAT.
It’s not as if all applicants are put on a spreadsheet and the school lops off the top 1,000 and accepts them. Sure you might be rejected at some schools – but it won’t be because of any scoring deficiency. It’s too bad your parents don’t understand this fact.
If you are not applying to schools that require SAT2 even with ACT, or at least strongly recommend it (like Stanford), you don’t really need to take SAT2. Unless you are applying to the Integrated Science program at Northwestern, you don’t need more SAT2 than what you have already either.
