SAT Subject Test - Send Report to NMSP?

Hi there,

Daughter is finishing Soph year in HS... She is taking AP World History and the SAT AP World subject test 6/2... If she feels good about her testing, should she send one of the four free reports to NMSP?

She is taking SAT 10/06 and PSAT 10/17

Score as Frosh 64-60-56 = 180
Score as Soph 71-69-71 = 211

Hoping for similar improvement to get to NMSF/NMF as a Junior in CA (mid 220's)

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this issue as I haven't seen it addressed here!

Rockfish…If you’re asking about sending SAT II scores to NMSC, they’ll have no impact on whether or not your daughter achieves Semi-Finalist status. If she scores above 2000 on the SAT I test on 10/6 then you can send that score to NMSC (code #0085 I believe) as that should count as her “confirming” SAT score, but you won’t even know until Spring of next year whether her PSAT score is in the ballpark. You can send the score at any time, so there’s no real advantage to sending it early other than “one less thing to remember” down the road. The factors that count towards NMSF status are:

PSAT score from Junior Year testing above state cutoff for that year

“Confirming” SAT score - historically anything above 1970-ish (2000+ to be safe)

Solid HS GPA - generally 3.5+ with no more than a few C’s (most subjective criteria)

HS recommendation - make sure her school knows they can recommend ALL their SF’s

No major disciplinary issues on her HS record

NMSF paperwork (simple essay, transcript, rec letter, NMSC form, etc.) completed properly and sent in ON TIME. Some schools submit electronically (this was a new option started last year) while some still opted for snail mail.

The PSAT score is the long pole in the tent that disqualifies the vast majority of students. If your D clears that hurdle (her trend looks promising  ) then getting all her paperwork submitted on time would generally be the biggest potential trip-up remaining. SAT I can be retaken as often as necessary between sophmore and senior year to achieve the “qualifying” score. GPA/grades usually isn’t a problem for most NMSFs, although there are the occasional few who don’t make Finalist due to a few too many C’s or lower on their transcript. There is no “hard and fast” number though, which is why that component is the most subjective.

Have her focus on the PSAT and keeping her grades solid. There’s nothing else you/she can do at this point. Good Luck!!

no… nmcorp doesn’t want/use sat 2 tests

There really isn’t a point in sending the scores to NMCORP. I took the SAT world history test at the end of my soph year too and I am not sending the scores anywhere until I apply to colleges next semester. Hope your daughter does well, it was a very fun test!

Thanks all for the guidance as always, I’m so glad I happened on to this forum!
