SAT Subject Tests and admissions.

Hello guys,

How bad can poor Subject test scores compared most other applicants to a school like Yale (600s and below) affect your chances?

Is the rest of your application stellar? What is your GPA? What are your SAT or ACT scores?

If you have an ivy caliber application, why did you score so poorly on your subject tests? Perhaps you should retake them.

it raises alarm bells. Retake.

What if I took the tests in December and can’t retake?

December isn’t here yet, so this is a hypothetical.
If you get scores in the 500s/600s, recalibrate your list and aim at LACs ranked 40-85 (most universities won’t require them below a certain level).

Check your calendar. It’s not December yet. You didn’t take those tests in December.

hypothetically
Sorry, I assumed that since it isn’t December, the responders would infer that I’m talking of a hypothetical situation.
Thanks guys for your input.

So let me get this straight. You’re applying to Yale. The rest of your application is stellar (like it needs to be for Yale). You’ve worked hard through high school and are tops in your class with a great GPA. You also prepared and studied for your SAT and scored above 2200. You are also very active and involved in your ECs.

BUT, you’ve waited until the last possible moment to take your SAT subject tests? Please explain your “Hypothetical” situation which makes no sense to me.

The problem is the different system here in Ghana. It’s quite difficult to register and prepare for any standardized test, even if you’re taking a gap year and you’re not in an isolated boarding school(which most Ghanaian high schools are).
I managed to register for the December subject test because I only graduated in June and took the SAT in October so I needed quite some time to study up for the subject tests since some of the material and the test design is quite strange to our curriculum. I was only wondering how badly a bad score would affect my application. Hopefully, I won’t get that low a score on the tests I’m taking.
Thank for your understanding and your input!
