Hi all,
I took Math II on June 6th and scores are back. Sadly I did not get the 800 that so many get when taking the Math 2 test. In fact I only got a 750. So, my question is- just what is considered a competitive score for elite colleges (ie. Ivy league, Stanford, Duke) and if I should retake math 2 in october. Thanks!
You are competitive without a need to retake.

700 is good.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses. Maybe another thing to note is that I am of Asian descent. Would this affect my decision to retake? I am thinking of retaking because from what I have read, many ivy league applicants have submitted 3 800 SAT subject tests (Yikes!!).
If you are applying as an engineer major requiring you to submit a SAT II Math 2 score, I’d retake it for an 800.
Although scores do matter, there are a lot of other things that Universities look at.
For Ivy Leagues, I say over 750 is competitive enough.
Good luck!
And apparently not according to Universities but who knows… make yourself a good enough applicant to stop them from rejecting you simply because of your descent.
I have a similar issue. I took chemistry and scored a 770. I am planning to major in chemistry/chemical engineering. Do I need to retake the test to score an 800? Or am I fine?
^ you’re good to go. Chem 770 is terrific.
Anything >700 is great, anything >=750 is terrific! Don’t retake.
Think of SAT scores like a soft first-round cutoff. Once you have a qualifying score for a school, they’ll look at other factors to determine whether or not to admit you.
Here is a link to percentile scores:
Unless you are applying to Cal Tech where middle 50% math level II is 800, I wouldn’t sweat it.
Haha Nerdyparent, how did you guess? I will be applying to Cal Tech this coming fall though my top choice is either CAS or CALS at Cornell. haha thanks for the info
