I have taken the SAT twice, with the first time of 2020, second time 2160 (CR: 650; math:800; writing: 730). I am planning to apply to mainly brown, and perhaps (as a reach school), yale. People have been telling me to superscore and take SAT again for the third time to work on my CR (push it up to 700 or above), to make sure that I can get into brown. But the problem is: is taking SAT 3 times too much? and also, I am planning on perhaps focusing on CR, which means possibly doing less well in math and writing.(and therefore affecting the final score?). And as Brown accepts superscore but Yale doesn't, would this affect my application? Should I do it?

There is no way to increase your scores to “make sure you can get into Brown.” Your scores are really good. You can try for above a 2200 if you think it won’t take up too much of your time, past that is kind of unnecessary. But studying for standardized tests is stressful, time consuming, and kind of a waste when ECs and rigor of classes matters WAY more. I would focus on those things to improve your chances for Brown. I have a 2310 but average/weak ECs and I’d rather have it the other way around.

usually the limit is three times that you can take the SAT, but you shouldn’t take it so many times unless you are sure that you’ll improve, otherwise it’s a waste of time and money. even if yale doesn’t superscore, i think 2160 is an excellent score. it’s not guaranteed to get you in, but it’s a step in the right direction.
also, colleges focus on two things: test scores and your grades. if you have a great GPA with a list of challenging classes, that’s bettering your chances.
