Hello, I was just wondering which had more significance at Cornell, GPA or SAT?\
Do you think a person with a top rank and GPA would be accepted with a lower SAT score or if someone with a lower rank and GPA would be accepted with a higher SAT score?
thank you

gpa and ‘fit’

It depends. Generally, I’d say GPA, because that’s over the course of 3-4 years, whereas the SAT is a day or two or three out of your entire life. However, fit is equally important.

Cornell accepts quite a few people with low SAT scores but high GPAs.

Fit is just an arbitrarily defined term that is generally a combination of relevant extracurriculars, the personality you express through your essays, and how well your goals go with the school you apply to.

They BOTH matter. Personally at my school I’ve seen someone with a 2300+ but only top 25% rank rejected and a 2000, top 1% get rejected also while people with 2200’s and top 5-10% mostly got accepted.

People here will talk your ear off about “fit” but really you don’t need to tailor your life towards getting into a specific school. Be sincere in your essays and get a high GPA AND a high SAT, because for the vast majority (notice I didn’t say ALL) you will need both.
