just wonderin...i mean...sum colleges i hv been looking at...writing doesn't matter...take NYU for example...they were like on their website...there is no difference b/t an 800 writing score than an 500...does this mean u can just like ignore this section? i mean...say like if two applicants are dead matched, the writing score may be a lil leverage...but other than that...is writing that important? thanks in advance for any feedback

I have no idea why they would say that; the writing score is 1/3 of the SAT! Also, it really provides a measure of the grammar reasoning skills and the writing ability (which is a world of importance) of the student. Don't ignore it. Besides, if you do really well on it, it can boost your combined SAT score.

I think this is just colleges telling people what they want to hear, like "early decision and regular admission are equal in accepting applicants" or "we take everything into consideration, you don't need almost perfect stats to get into HSPY." You don't but probably only 1% that get in don't have the high stats.

a good number of colleges, such as stanford, UC's, dartmouth, harvard, upenn, brown, and tufts weigh wright as the same as the other sections. Many other colleges do not weigh it as much. But very few colleges do not consider writing at all, most notably georgetown.
