SATs Are In!

Eth: White
Sex: Male
State: NC
Grade: Junior
Major: Economics or History (History if I decide to persue law)
School: Ranked 83rd in the country, 6th in the state (sends at least 1 to an Ivy every year, then again nobody wants to leave the Southern climate, so they don't apply to Northern schools anyway. Several students get into Duke each year.)
Courseload: Most rigorous that is available

GPA:

Unweighted - 3.93 (Will increase to 3.95 at end of year)

Weighted - 4.64 (Will increase to 4.89 at end of year)

Rank:
10/404

AP's - Through End of Junior Year
- AP World History (5 on the test)
- AP Calculus AB (Currently taking)
- AP English Language (Currently taking)

Current Grades: Straight A's in 4 APs and Spanish 2

Senior Schedule (Projected):

- H. Spanish 3

Scores:
SAT: 2110/2400 and 1380/2400
I plan on retaking in either May, June, or next October.

Sports-
Soccer (9-11)

EC's:

Beta Club (10-11) - Elected Beta Club President this year (BETA is basically a service organization of around 300 members)

SEAL Club (11) - Environmental protection organization - We do litter pick ups around school and other projects

FCA (11) - Fellowship of Christian Athletes - Basically just a for fun thing - Meet weekly and play games and have competitions

Interclub Council (11) - All the club presidents join together and talk about stuff

Community Service (Will add on):

Volunteer at least 2 hours a week at the public library. It is in a disadvantaged side of town if that makes any difference. (Exposure to diversity?)

Volunteer for Special Olympics every year

Help at hospital where my mom works occassionally

SEAL Club litter pick-ups (Roughly an hour every few weeks)

Honors, Recognitions, Awards, Programs (Kinda weak right now):

I guess being the President of BETA Club?

Our school doesn't really give awards aside from Most Improved Student which usually goes to kids who were suffering but then improved their grades

Other:
- I referee youth soccer games, which my teacher claims is an excellent demonstration of leadership. Is that accurate? Will that look good on a college application.

In my freshman year I really screwed up and got a B in a joke class. The class was called Freshman Seminar and was mandatory for all freshmen. I did not take it seriously and neglected to turn in a major project. Unfortunately, this lowered by grade to a B. I would be #1 in my class if it weren't for this mishap. However, I have made straight A's since then and plan to make straight A's my senior year. Will this blunder hinder my chances at getting into my schools of choice?

My College List:
UNC (Most Likely Destination)
University of Chicago
Duke University
Wake Forest
Brown (I know this is a HUGE stretch!)
Davidson
UVA
Georgia (Honors Program)
William and Mary
Emory

Thanks for all of the help!

Any takers?

You should apply to more Ivy Leagues. Your stats aren't bad, especially since you have so many AP classes. The only trouble is your SAT/SATII, work on those!

(Anyways, so this is how it feels to be a senior looking back in time at the chance threads when I first posted as a junior. So nostalgic.)

Thanks for the feedback! I plan on buying a test prep book such as Barron's and retaking it in either June or next October. My main area of concern is math, I can't seem to remember geometry at all! (740 V/640 M)

1380/2400

Hope that's a mistake. It's really.... inconsistent. I'm assuming out of 1600?

Whoops! Haha, yes that's out of 1600. Sorry, that's a pretty big typo! :)

Both those scores are from the same test.
The actual breakdown is:
(740CR/640M/730W)

I was captain of the soccer team during my junior year. I neglected to mention it, but it seems to be designated on posts by other people. That will count towards my "leadership experience", but I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make.

Anyone else?

I am attempting to find a job for the summer. If that is not possible, I will volunteer at the hospital more often.

I've never heard of ap calc 3...

^ There is not AP Test for it, it is just a continuation of topics addressed in AP Calc AB/BC. It is considered an "AP" by my school district because it is based on the AP Grading Scale (6 points for an A).

wow, dude nice resume, you are very well qualified.

Thank you!

Scores are a little low, and EC's may be a touch thin on passion for UChi and Duke, but you seem to be okay for the other schools.

Get your SAT's up and UVA, W&M= match/low-reach

Following my college tours of the local circuit (UNC, Davidson, and Wake), Davidson is definately my top choice! I would appreciate any "chancing" specific to Davidson! :)

Thanks.

What should I plan on doing over the summer?

More chances specific to Davidson, or any of the aforementioned colleges, would be greatly appreciated.
