Sports-
School Soccer (9-11) Captain 11th Grade Year
Competitive Soccer (9-11) - Club Soccer
Indoor Soccer (9-11)

I am NOT nearly good enough to play at a DI level, I just really enjoy the sport. (Will probably continue to play inturmurals or club soccer during college.)

EC's:

Beta Club (10-11) - Elected Beta Club President this year (BETA is basically a service organization of around 300 members)

FCA (11) - Fellowship of Christian Athletes - Basically just a for fun thing - Meet weekly and play games and have competitions

Interclub Council (11) - All the club presidents join together and talk about stuff

Community Service (Will add on):

SEAL Club litter pick-ups (Roughly an hour every few weeks)

Honors, Recognitions, Awards, Programs (Kinda weak right now):

I guess being the President of BETA Club?

Our school doesn't really give awards aside from Most Improved Student which usually goes to kids who were suffering but then improved their grades

Other:
- I referee youth soccer games, which my teacher claims is an excellent demonstration of leadership. Is that accurate? Will that look good on a college application.

In my freshman year I really screwed up and got a B in a joke class. The class was called Freshman Seminar and was mandatory for all freshmen. I did not take it seriously and neglected to turn in a major project. Unfortunately, this lowered by grade to a B. I would be #1 in my class if it weren't for this mishap. However, I have made straight A's since then and plan to make straight A's my senior year. Will this blunder hinder my chances at getting into my schools of choice?

Reaches:
Duke
Brown (Extreme reach)
Davidson (Dream School!)
University of Chicago

Matches:
UNC-Chapel Hill
Wake Forest
Emory (?)
William and Mary

Safeties:
Georgia (Honors)
Furman

Thanks for all of the help!

Your chances are pretty accurate. You have a decent chance at Brown though, and I bet you'll get into U Chicago.

That's good! I don't want to be over-optimistic about any colleges.

I'm worried about Davidson, as the higher yield for 2012/greater number of applicants for 2013 may make it more difficult to get into to (March Madness success). I toured the campus, and I consider it my top choice as of now.

getting into brown is about as hard as getting into duke, so its not an extreme reach

Don't expect them to get a substantial boost in applications just because they made the Elite 8 in basketball. The boost is most likely to come from the class of 2009 having a ridiculous number of students.

^Oh, well that doesn't do me much good either. :)

I really want to go Davidson, the only thing I see as a disadvantage for going there is job placement. (In terms of a not so extensive alumni network.)

Good to go everywhere.

Really? I'm glad to hear that.

Even at Duke, Brown, and University of Chicago?

And especially Davidson?

Any other advice?

wait......the class of 2009 will be the largest pool of applicants colleges ever seen, even greater than class of 2008?????

^Yeah, 2009 will be the biggest class ever.

Also, I have been researching Brown and their COE program looks really awesome! Is it unrealistic for me to think I have a chance of getting in?

I think you'd have an okay shot at Brown. Your schedule and APs show really hard work (and I doubt that freshmen seminar will hurt you). Once you retake the SAT that'll help too. Your ECs should be fine, but I hear Brown tends to look towards a creative side? Not sure.

Davidson should be a fit though. William and Mary should be a definite. I would be very surprised if you didn't get into U. Chicago and Emory also (high fit?).

Here I see your only real reaches being Duke and Brown, and I'd say you still have a pretty good shot as you build onto your 'resume' for next year.

W + M might be a reach just cuase yours OOS. i have an amazing firned who got waitlisted there and woulda got in if she werent oos.
i feel like u go to enloe/green hope/broughton. some raleigh school. haha that was random

Haha, nope not a Raleigh school. It's a Guilford County school, but I won't say anymore. :P

Thanks for the advice sherlock and TarHeel. Btw, very disappointing game Saturday, I was hoping it would be UNC taking home the championship.

Anyone else?

I'm doing a Leadership Conference this summer run through the Rotary Club this summer. Only 2 people from my school were selected for it. Will this have any impact on my chances?

W&M OOS is really tough. Dont count it as a slam dunk. At this level, there is no logic. All of your schools are very similar and you without a doubt will get in somewhere. Good luck.

hey. since Davidson is your dream school, I'll talk on that. I have a friend that got into Davidson for this fall . He only had a 4.37 and a 34 ACT. Comparatively so, you outbeat all his stats. You should feel pretty safe about getting in Davidson. He played basketball. He was pretty good but wouldn't have played in college. maybe intramurals or something.
As far as Emory, I got into Emory for this fall and I don't look near as good as you on paper. like....really? I only have a 4.3. not that this isn't a great GPA. Remember, I'm talking comparatively. also, what major are you thinking about?

Thanks to both of you for the advice!

Dallas, that makes me feel much better! Thanks. I am thinking about Economics as my major. If I were to go UNC or a school that offered undergraduate business I might consider that. However, I seem to be relatively set on Econ.

I'm pretty sure that all of the schools I am interested in have good econ. programs.

Emory has an Economics/History joint major that seems very appealing. So for Emory, that would probably be it.

For Davidson, it would just be Economics. (Possibly a minor in Spanish?)

Haha, good news! On my latest transcript, my rank has moved up to 9! Yay for single digits now! :)
