I'm so glad the Saturday in the Square question came up because if I hadn't read about it here, I would not have known what it was all about. My d received her invitation yesterday and the timing was perfect, as it was on the heels of two painful rejections. I tried to tell her what a great sign it is, but she doesn't want to make any assumptions until that acceptance letter is in her hands, so I have been silenced (for the time being)!! Thank you Susan for all the good info. Do you think your d might be present at the event?

Eliza'smom, congratulations to your daughter on her acceptance...yes she will be admitted! I know one wants to be cautious in these matters but now you KNOW, this really is IT. I never knew about what Sat. in the Square was or what the invitation meant until shortly before my D got it. When she got it, I knew by then. I was reading about it on CC in fact. My D was in the hospital and there was a computer in her room and I was staying/sleeping there for ten days and sometimes late at night when she fell asleep, I signed on for a diversion from the stress. I read about these invitations. That is how I knew when it came to our house and my husband went home for the night to get the mail and read it to her on the phone. I knew by then what it meant. Had I not read about it, yes, I'd be cautious. But this really is the thing, tell her that. Remember, they aren't going to invite you for an accepted student event that takes place AFTER April 1 when the real letters come out, if you are not accepted. It just would make no sense, who would go then? So, yippee for your D and let us know which studio she gets. Also, this process involves some rejections and hopefully some acceptances and so one balances the other and it is not a contest as to how many she racks up but only that she get into one and that she likes the options she has. Let her know this is NOT an assumption but an indication of an acceptance.

As far as who attends that event...I know nothing of my D being involved. I don't recall loads of current students involved. I recall many who wore special tee shirts who must have signed on to help with the event. As well, I know at the reception for drama students at the Tisch building (this is the second half of the event), there were some drama students to talk with. Also at Tisch Scholars, there were current Scholars who spoke about the program. I don't know if she'll be involved in that luncheon or not. Haven't heard a thing.

Down the line if your D is deciding where to go and needs to talk to a current student, I could pass along her email as I have with others. This week is just too insane and she doesn't have a spare moment it seems to even fit ME in, LOL. But let me know after April 1 if she needs to ask a current student any questions.

Best wishes to your D.
Susan

Susan,
Yes, absolutely I will take you up on the offer after April 1. (Big sigh of relief...)
Thank you!

I'm just wondering if you aren't able to attend, will it look like you aren't interested and therefore they may give your possible spot to someone else when it really comes time for the cut? Like whoever shows an interest now, will give them an idea how many others to let in. Perhaps I'm thinking too much!

Attendance has NO bearing on anything but your own exploration of the school. ALL decisions will have been rendered PRIOR to Saturday in the Square. Admissions and rejections will go out on April 1 and this event is a week later. On NYU's end, the decisions are a done deal. On YOUR end, you are in the driver's seat. No longer are colleges picking YOU but you are picking THEM (if you have a choice of options). The event is to benefit you. It is a chance to learn more, meet others who may attend, etc. There is no impression for you to have to make. There is no cut to come. There is no benefit to showing any interest. Your admission is an offer that can never be taken away. You have until May 1 to let them know if you want to enroll or not. Those not admitted on April 1 will not be admitted later. Their deal is also a done deal. Waitlists are only used if after May 1, less students enroll than they were counting on or need to fill their slots. However, all schools admit more than they will yield and take into account based on past years, how many they need to accept to yield the number they want to have matriculate.

Hope this helps. If you're in, you're in, NO more worries on that front. Go to the event for YOURSELF but not to please or show interest because there is nothing to be gained in that respect. You have to gain for your own need to help you decide where to enroll or if you have already decided to enroll in Tisch, you can just learn more and celebrate and meet people, etc.
Susan

AHH I GOT ONE! im thrilled.. but my dad is being a jerk and keeps going... "this doesnt mean anything, don't get too excited".. but it does right?? i mean i definitely got in?!!!

Congrats Lotte, and yes, it means you WILL be admitted. Read prior posts. I understand if your father is skeptical but you need to inform him of what those who have been there, done that have told you. As well, other students have called NYU or posted questions on their own OFFICIAL forums where officials from NYU indicated that the invitation is a form of indication that good news about admissions are forthcoming. Remember what the invite says, "for oustanding students in the entering class" which doesn't make sense if you aren't in the entering class. As well, who would be invited or go to a reception for accepted students that takes place AFTER the decisions come out. It wouldn't make sense to go if denied, would it? Be assured that an letter of acceptance is in your future in less than two weeks and you'll get it prior to the event but they are letting you know of the event now so you can make plans to attend rather than you wait to find out on April 1 which is late to make travel plans for an event a week later.

If your father doubts this, go read NYU's own forums or call and ask the school what this invitation means. Enough posters who have been there, done that are informing you based on experience. Also on CC's NYU forum, other posters quote staff at NYU who have explained what the invitations mean.

If it helps I called the guy I interviewed with (he works in field studies and as a talent scout for the NYU arts programs)and he said the invitation was a nod. He called it a "Yield Event". Congrats to those who have been invited!

My son received an invitation in the mail today -- we're thrilled since we knew what it meant from reading cc for so long! It's his first acceptance -- only other MT folks can appreciate what that feels like! I'm so thankful for all the information we've received on this board over the past year, including a lead to CoachC, who is a wonderful person and resource. Good luck to everyone!

My son is still concerned about the size of the program at NYU and is waiting to hear from a couple of smaller schools, but this still feels great!!

EdmondG...congratulating you ON the forum! Wonderful news for your son and a first acceptance is very sweet. Enjoy and look forward to hearing his other outcomes and decisions.

The issue of size is one to consider and those issues arose for us as well. Just to let your son know that the class sizes in studio are somewhere between 15-20. Just giving that information in case he is not aware of that.

Best wishes, Susan

AHHHHHHHH! i just got one, and I am beyond excited!!! i am like freaking out, i mean now its killing me bc i really want to have the studio suspense gone, but this was way way high on my list... and i am soooo relieved! so i think i know where i am going to school next year... :)
ps- mrs. edmonds- i'll see you there! tell him congrats!

Thanks!!! It's such an unbelievable feeling! Susan, I didn't know that about the studio class sizes -- that's very good to know, and I'll definitely pass it along to my son.

bway -- congratulations!!! See you there!!

thank you soozie! its just so hard not to have the official letter in my hand.. i feel like i can't tell anyone yet!

and the studio suspense is killing me too! im convinced i didn't get into CAP 21.. however id be thrilled with meisner extension except i cant find out anything about it!!... i just don't know what i'll do if i get into syracuse or northwestern.. really tough choice.

this is so great guys!

bway06....I'm gonna say it ON the forum..I'm SO happy for you! The wait was worth it. My very best wishes. Exciting times are ahead.

EdmondsG...if you, or any other poster as well, have questions, I MAY be able to answer them given I'm a parent of a current student. I may not know the answer but give it a whirl if something like that comes up.

For the people who got the invite... what were ure first and second choices for Studios? (I am guessing most are CAP for #1 becuase this is an MT page...)

Mine were:
1) CAP
2) Adler/Atlantic

-Zal

Yay. So this means I at least got in one audition school which is the first good news I have had from colleges in a long time. Please be right! :) I wonder which studio. I said I was interested in Atlantic, Meisner and Adler. I will definately go if I get in Atlantic and will go to the others if I don't get in Vassar.

Let me apologize for not looking at dates when I made my post in last years thread... for those of you who haven't read it this might not make sense...

From reading all this it seems weird that I got invited even though I was accpeted Early Decsion. There is no doubt I am going and I have already given them a substantial amount of money.

Is this indeed weird?

PRFRMR20, S's studio choices were CAP21 then Playwrights Horizon, although he really, really wants CAP.

LotteLenya, my S is waiting on Northwestern, also. You didn't do their summer program, did you?
