Saturday in the square/university day

Tawny, I'm crossing my fingers that along with the fat loan is a real fat scholarship because it IS possible (happened here) and you are obviously an outstanding candidate and also can demonstrate need....a good combination. Hang tight. Rooting for you that you can find a way to make Tisch happen if that is where you are hoping to attend. The film program is very well regarded.

Thanks for the support, soozievt!
And thanks for your info regarding Tisch Scholars, it helps a lot!
I'll keep you posted when I found out financial info (which I hope is coming soon!)

So, sick of waiting and uncertainty, I finally called Tisch about the S@S invitation and got that sweet yet annoyingly cloying line, "great news is on the way!"

I still would like to know, though, what exactly it means to get the invitation, and how and why we were selected to recieve this invitation.

Also, before the very nice lady told me the answer to my question, she asked for my Soc. Sec. and address and brought up my file on her computer, presumably to supplement her confidence in my admission.

film, it means they love you, they really love you! Relax, enjoy, celebrate!

Lol. Thanks.

Does anyone know how long the program is supposed to run? I know it starts at 9:30, but the invitation doesn't say when it ends.

i talked to a friend who is helping run it, and he said they are shooting for around 1

Called them today... they're ending at 1:30. Word of advice for people who live outside of New York City you should definitley make sure you come before 9:30. I am a native New Yorker and even I get lost everytime I go to NYU for something. Although I will admit, I've been to the Skirball center before and it's not too hard to find. It's a very large building. I wonder if they're going to use stage at all? I saw Into the Words there and their theatre had amazing moving sets and other tech stuff. Congrats everyone!

bway06, any idea of what we'll actually do there?

from what i hear there is some general tisch stuff... i heard last year their dance majors performed for the group. then i think the separate us by major (or in the case of drama i think by studio) and i think the parents go off on their own for a little bit. i really dont have a lot of information, but that's kind of what ive gathered thus far...

Is there any chance that I may have been elligible for an invitation, but not been sent one because I live in the UK?

(Not being arrogant, just hopeful lol!)

Jenny, last year, those at Sat. in the Square came from most every state in the US and some foreign countries as well. You can opt to visit Tisch on your own and accomplish much of the same thing, do not worry. Congrats on your news.

Thanks Soozie! :) I'm thrilled to be accepted to Tisch at all. Just wondering about the invites because I'm new to the whole US system, and apparently it indicates those of higher ability...Can't stop my competitive streak coming through as far as my education is concerned lol :-P

Bump for ncc319

if you apply as a transfer can you still get an invitation?

and the year has changed, so has anyone received this invite for the 2007/2008 enrolling freshman class???

several of my friends who applied to steinhart and cas have gotten their sunday at the square invites. i applied to tisch and haven't heard of anyone getting one from there yet. hopefully that will be coming soon... or coming at all.

What exactly is Sunday in the Square?

First of all, Sunday in the Square is not the same as Saturday in the Square (and I just don't mean the day of the week, lol). So, sashie, if you have friends getting Sunday invites, those are not Tischies, as you can see. It is for a different event from Tisch and so the invites do not go out at the same time, either. I do not believe Tisch invites to Saturday in the Square have gone out yet. While I am not privy to the skinny as to when they are mailed, I distinctly recall when they came two years ago. Sometimes, you never forget a circumstance and that was one of those times. In my D's case, she learned of the invite over the phone from her dad who went home and got the mail and called her as she was in the hospital and it was great medicine. I can't forget that moment as I was living in her hospital room. My recollection is that it came the third week in March or around the low 20 something of the month. My guess is that people will get them early next week.

Danimal....The Saturday in the Square is an event for admitted students to Tisch (Sunday in Square is for admitted students to other NYU schools) that you must be invited to attend. It is like an open house with various speakers and information and what not to help those who have been admitted decide where to matriculate. The invitations to attend come BEFORE the actual acceptance letters which go out April 1. If you get an invitation to this event (which takes place early to mid April), you can be assured you WILL be getting an acceptance letter April 1. They can't wait until April 1 to invite you because you need to make plans to attend. If you do NOT get an invitation to this event, it DOES NOT mean you WILL NOT be accepted. They do not invite all accepted students to this event as it would be too many people to host. They select certain candidates who they are admitting whom they want to attract to actually come. So, if you get an invite, you know a little earlier that you will be accepted to Tisch but if you don't get an invite, hold tight as you still may be accepted on April 1. Again, not all who are accepted, will get this early invitation to this event called Saturday in the Square. Also, that event is JUST for Tisch accepted students and is not held on the same day as Sunday in the Square (or that may be called University Day?) for non Tisch NYU school acceptees. I just looked at the invitation from 2 years ago and Tisch's Saturday in the Square event was on April 9. The postmark for the mailed invitation was March 18.
