say I get a 2300+ on teh SATs and I have some ECs, but my GPA blows..

Im talking about a 3.7 weighted, got B+s, A-s, and maybe a few Cs (:()

but I have some great ECs, didnt win any awards but I think they show Im a a hard worker who cares and am faily interesting (lol I want a school prize for free style rap battling)

(tutoring children in the villages of India, seriously not a lot by volume (10-12) but they are out-standing compared to a lot of people)

I want to look to get at a 2300+ on the SATs as well

gonna study hard

I have always taken honors/AP classes except for my English class this year..

and I am lookin to get a 5 on the Physics AP. (got 5 APs next year too)

I understand that I am not a strong GPA wise candidate, but I think I score big everywhere else

The reason I am making this thread is to see if it would be doing all the practice and stuff to get a 2300+, I know I can but lol me and that blue book are gonna be best friends by June..

Sorry if I came off as arrogant or ignorant, Im just one of those late bloomer types and this is an honest evaluation of me

I copied that from the Brown boards because I forgot to add, I wanted to know if I could get into any top 25 schools (Rice Uni looks nice, but for some reason I relly like Brown)

As long as you're getting 2300+'s on teh SAT's, you should be fine. Cuz 3.7 weighed looks good.

I'm more or less in the same boat.

I'm lookin to have a 2300, with a 3.5 uw and a 3.82 w.

I'm doing everything I can to compensate for my lackluster sophmore year (Including self-studying for three AP Exams this year, senior schedule full of APs, etc.), as I really want to go to Brown or Northwestern.

I'm praying.

Don't worry; we're all on the same boat. Of course, I posted my own thread asking for advice, so I can't exactly give any. But...good luck, anyhow.

I'm going to need it...

You have to work hard to get 2300+, it's not that easy. Girl in our school has UW GPA 4.0 (yes yes, she didn't have any Bs) and her W GPA is like 4.8/5.0, she does all kind of ECs too, her English is perfect, she is good at math, but her SAT is only 2230/2400

Yeah, but what was her composite verbal and math scores? Because most colleges (Georgetown included, I think) don't even bother with the writing score, because they have no idea what exactly say, a 2230/2400 means.

Yes but Harvard and Yale, as well as most of the other Ivies, do look at the writing. Many have required the Composition SAT II for a while now.

But at the same time, they make sure to look at each section separately.

Also, it's just a matter of where you are--your friend is amazing in everything else, it seems, so he/she doesnt have to worry so much with a 2230. Also, just think about it--it's only seventy points away from the AMAZINGLY AMAZING 2300. All in all, not too shabby. I'm quite jealous.

there's a pretty good chance that the girl mentioned above was just an overachiever who wasn't able to study enough for the SATs..there are plenty of people at my schools with perfect academic records and SAT scores of like 1700...but anyway, I think you don't have an excellent chance, but with good essays you should be able to do fairly well in admissions. Your GPA really isn't that bad, and your ECs should really help you.

Brown is a "crapshoot" for just about anyone. I know kids who had 2230 on the SAT, NMF, excellent ECs weighted GPA of about 3.7, great recs & interview but were stiil rejected (not even waitlisted) from Brown. With so many highly qualified applicants, I'd say that all ivies & schools in that "tier" are crapshoots for most/all folks. There is incredible competition because there are so very many extremely qualified students applying for the same limited spots. That is one of the reasons students are advised to apply broadly & love their safety. Your school should be able to give you advice about students with similar credentials & which schools they were admitted at, to give you a realistic idea of where you might be admitted.
Finances are another thing to consider in all of this--be sure to have an honest conversation with your family about how much they can afford to pay for whatever school you will attend. It is so sad to read about students who get into great schools only to learn that the family cannot afford to send them there.
There are schools which give guanteed scholarships for students which meet specified criteria, including SAT scores if you search some of these threads.

Sorry man. You have NO chance at Brown. I go to a public school and many people at my school applied to Brown (almost 30). Only those with 4.5 or higher and around a 2200+ had a chance. I assume they have excellent ECs too as many students at my school do (music, volunteering,2-3 sport varsity, etc)

What about Rice and the top 20 then?

Top 20? Assuming you get 2300, ranked in Top 25ish%, and 3.7w?

Vanderbilt- High Reach
UVA OOS?- High Reach
Rice- Mid Reach

err *** it cant be so high!

a 2300 pretty much shows mastery, I dont mean to be whiney but come on It cant be THAT hard to get into a top 25

I understand there is tons of competition and all, but I look at the 25% to 75% scores and they are usually 1270 - 1410

man im on the same exact boat as u lmfao, mines gonna be a 3.5 uw and my sat is gonna be a 2300 hopefully and i just wanna get into UT or RIce

ughh Yea dude Rice would be wonderful, I would honestly 'soul stock' lol for Rice

jk

Ok so can I get into any of these schools?

11 Washington University in St. Louis
12 Northwestern University (IL)
13 Cornell University (NY)
13 Johns Hopkins University (MD)
15 Brown University (RI)
15 University of Chicago
17 Rice University (TX)
18 University of Notre Dame (IN)
18 Vanderbilt University (TN)
20 Emory University (GA)
20 University of California – Berkeley*
22 Carnegie Mellon University (PA)
23 Georgetown University (DC)
23 University of Virginia*
25 Univ. of California – Los Angeles*
25 University of Michigan – Ann Arbor*
27 Tufts University (MA)
27 U. of North Carolina – Chapel Hill*
27 Wake Forest University (NC)
30 Univ. of Southern California

I'm in somewhat of the same boat, but my GPA is more like a 3.6 UW with 3.75 UW during junior year, will be in top 18% or so. 34 ACT, expecting 2300 or so on SAT, great extracurriculars, etc. I had a bad sophomore year, but hopefully I can pull a 3.9+ UW next year with lots of AP classes, and the upward trend will help erase some of those bad grades. Georgetown is my favorite college =D. I do want to say that with a 3.7 W it's gonna be very hard to get into top 20 schools, but try not to get too caught up in the prestige. Just go somewhere where you will be happy. = )

Oh my gosh! My cousin had crappy EVERYTHING (GPA,SAT SCORES, SAT II scores were all crappy) but he spent the entire summer on his essay(s) and it/they was/were a piece of art and he got into Brown...I am assuming that its really luck that gets you in because i was in complete shock when he got accepted and my sister had high and perfect everything and a damn good essay and got rejected from Brown!!??? Well she ended up at Yale anyways but still.....you have as much of a chance as the guy typing that you have NO chance....good luck!!!

lol, doesn't that mean that I have no chance

I would like to give this thread a bump, the thing is I will truly be happy in a high prestige school. Seriously, I am not that worried about handeling the work load or anything, as long as the houseing and food is decent, then I would love a good prestige school

any bump with the list, I am also considering USoCal. Wake Forest U., Tufts, CMU
