SCEA folks: stanford sends you a bday card!

Hey guys, it's my bday tomorrow and I just got an emailed card from the office of admissions!

did any of you guys get it too?
it's kinda strange, tho--since you'd have to be born between dec 15th and may 1st in order to get it...

i wonder if they'd send it if your bday was on dec 14th or something :-)

son's bday is tomorrow too. He didn't get one. He is RD.

Did sending that card pay off for them? ie, did it make you decide to pull any pending applications to other schools?

Cost of the card $40,000 X 4

Wow that is so nice of them to do! Mine is in October though, so I don't get one...darn!

I suppose to check the effectiveness of the Happy Birthday e-mails, they'd have to calculate the yield rate for people with birthdays inside the December 15-May 15 window vs those with birthdays outside the window.

Thank you very much for that keen insight.

yes I would have never used my brain to think those useless things.

I got a b'day card too. My birthday was January 6th, so it was relatively soon after we found out if we got in. The birthday card was a pleasant surprise, and it included something from one of the essays I wrote so it wasn't so generic. I think that was what made it so cool. Regardless, I doubt that would have a major impact on someone's decision:)

i doubt it would have a major impact on someone's decision just like those magnets they sent us..but it just shows how welcoming the Stanford community is..that's what makes Stanford more attractive

You are attracted by magnets? Do you have a lot of fillings, or what?

my birthday is the day that Stanford releases admissions... march 31st... so if i get an email from STanford... in the next few days.. thatd be awesome.

Byerly, why are you so skeptical?

thats really considerate of them! i wish im a cardinal come march 31st!

aww!! that's so nice of them!
dang, i wish yale did something cool like that. my bday was in jan. didnt stanford also send a second "acceptance letter" to EA admits? man.. they must really want you guys :P

yes they did =] i love cardinalll woooo

i know, i love cardinal too--it was awesome of them

zena, it's fantastic that you got a personalized card...mine was just like, "hey, now we have two reasons to celebrate--your admission + your bday! hope you'll spend the next one at stanford" sort of thing

and byerly, it has nothing to do with yield rates; i think it was just a nice gesture

"Nothing to do with yield rates?"

Sure.

I doubt many of the rejected candidates got "birthday e-mails" - or even current students already safely in the fold.

Enjoy it while it lasts. This is probably the only time during the entire process when the colleges need you more than you need them.

Byerly...we'll let you know whether or not we still get these bday cards after we've sent in our deposits (after May 2)..that'll be the true test
