Hey guys, I'm a freshman Econ major doing LAMP. Does this sound like a deathly schedule? I'm a honors college student, and i'm only going to take 12 credits, but I dont want to kill myself.
Econ E-370 (I dont have to take this yet, but it was recommended I do)
Econ E-202 (macro)
Cmlt C-151/Lats 101/ other (easy culture studies class)
Either L-201 or A-200 (accounting for non-majors)

I'm mainly asking whether I should take L201 or Accounting. I know that L201 is supposed to be a difficult class, but I'm afraid it will be too much quantative work if I take three math-y classes. I really want to keep my GPA above 3.8, so I need to get pretty good grades in these classes. Im not worried about macro, because I'm doing well in micro and it's supposed to be harder than macro. I am worried about E-370 though, and taking that with either A200 or L201.
Any advice? It would be greatly appreciated.

LaRok, why did you leave Kelley. Weren’t you a direct admit. You posted about worrying about math last year, but it seems like an economics major would need way more math than a Kelley business major. Did you consider BEPP at Kelley. The content of the two BEPP majors seem a lot like micro and macroeconomics, but with not as much math as you would need for the econ degree and with the BEPP degree being more useful in terms of getting a job.

I think your schedule looks fine. A200 would probably be easier than L201. Also, you can take L201 and transfer it to Kelley (don’t know if LAMP rules are different). Most Kelley students take finite and calculus before taking E370, but it is not mandatory to take calculus before.

Congratulations of getting a 3.8+ gpa first semester. That will be difficult to maintain as an econ major, though. Using the grade distributions, it looks like econ majors graduate with average gpa right around 3.0, as opposed to 3.4-3.5 for Kelley BEPP majors.

Basically because I liked the freedom of the college of arts and sciences and I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do in life. I fell in love with micro, and I can’t wait to take more. I am still worried about math, but there are only 2 econ required classes that really rely heavily on math, E370 being one of them. Many of them focus more on social science, which is what I really want to do.
I liked an econ degree because many people enter the job market with it and end up doing any variety of things, and with LAMP I’ll get the same job resources as Kelley grads. I only have to take one or two econ classes per semester to graduate and can take any other classes in the college that I want to get to 70 more credits, since I have already fulfilled all my distribution and all my reqs except math and culture studies.
Furthermore, I would have killed myself with more Kelley pre-reqs. I know its not a good reason to change majors, but I HATED K-204, and the thought of more technology classes makes me cringe. I didn’t want to take 3 levels of accounting, or business communications, or any other Kelley classes. I also really really really hate groupwork and like the independence in an econ degree.
So in summary, I wanted more freedom to take fun classes, not have to do tech classes and group work, and many people Ive talked to told me that you do not have to have a Kelley degree to get the same job as a Kelley grad, especially with LAMP. And I think the low graduating GPAS on econ majors represents a lot of students who didn’t get into Kelley.
Thanks for your advice on the scheduling, not just on this post!
