I'm considering taking Spanish 25 - Reading and Analysis of Literary Texts. The pre req for it is Spanish 4 so I'm a little worried that if I take Span 25, then I won't be able to go back to Spanish 4, which I can't take this semester since I already have too many units.
So, my question is: Has anyone heard about this class? If so, do you think I'll be able to handle it if I have done four years of high school and feel pretty comfortable with Spanish?

Would you call yourself fluent? Would you call yourself proficient? What can you read or have you read in spanish? What are the lengths of essays you've written regularly? Have you taken the SAT II or AP test (or IB test) in Spanish? What'd you get? How comfortable are you with spaking? Listening? Writing? Reading? How many dogs do you have? What are their names?

Okay, the questions started to veer off, but you get the idea. Answer the important ones (aka all of them!). :)

lol
i don't have any dogs - but I have a guinea pig...

I wouldn't call myself fluent in Spanish since I do stumble when speaking. But I'm not a beginner either.
I took the AP test this year so I was thinking, maybe I should wait to get my score and then sign up for the class. I just don't want to end up in a class with all native speakers who will already know the language very well.

Also, do you know anything about the Spanish 24 seminar - "Talking Funny: Language Variation in Spanish and English Literary Texts"?

I only know what the description says. The AP test score might be telling, but if you can read full novels, well, that is what Spanish 4 is- a Spanish lit class. I don't know about 25, though, although I imagine it's like Spanish 4 but more advanced.

Does the department have a placement exam?

You could always take four- it might be right at your level, but it probably would not be below it.

Is your AP score going to get to you before your CalSO?

Yay, CalSO. That plan sounds fine. You can always join Spanish related clubs, some of which I bet speak only Spanish, or venture to I-House and chat it up with some Spanish speakers if you feel Spanish-less.
