I’m currently a freshman at my HS, not taking any APs. Next year, I plan on taking four, which include:
AP World History
AP Calc BC
AP Chemistry
AP Biology
My classmates, (and my counselor) are warning against taking more than two APs. I honestly don’t think this schedule is “suicidal,” but I haven’t taken APs yet, so I don’t know. Can anyone who has taken these classes before give me some advice on what workload to expect if I take all four at once? Thanks in advance.
We cannot tell you what your workload will be because all schools are different. To find out how hard your course load would be, you have to ask upperclassmen at your school who have taken those classes.
A lot also depends on rigor of your courses this year. If you are taking all regular classes now then you probably don’t want to jump 4 AP classes next year.
You also might not have all the prerequisites for the classes you listed. At my school you have to take the corresponding regular or honors course to take an AP science (except for AP Physics 1), your school could be different.
Edit: It would also be useful to know your schedule for this year and the other classes you’d take next year.
@IAmNotCreativ
I already have a plan to get my prereq for Chem over the summer. Everything else, I already am taking the prereq this year.
Also, my HS is very new; we opened up this year, and at the moment, only have a class of freshmen and sophomores. My HS currently offers one AP class (AP World History) and that’s it, so no one here knows about the other APs lol. Next year, we’re going to have all four years at our school, so they’ve added more APs to the course list.
My schedule this year includes:
PE
Precalculus Honors
Spanish I
Health
Orchestra
Freshman English Honors
Biology Honors
I would say take AP Calc for sure because you are taking Precalculus right now and there really isn’t much else you could take… AP World is pretty common for sophomores and I would recommend that class, however just know it is a lot of reading and memorization. AP Bio is also a lot of memorization, so along with World it would be a ton of reading. You have to be able to dedicate lots of time. But since you are taking Bio H right now, and Chem over the summer, I’m sure it is doable. AP Chemistry is a very hard class to most people. I would see how you do in your summer Chem course, and if you struggle at all, probably don’t take AP Chem. Just wait till junior year when you are used to the workload. In the end, it is doable, however I would recommend taking one off (probably one of the sciences).
