DD went to orientation on June 7 at which she was able to register for classes and was able to schedule what she needed without much of a problem. She has now found out that she needs to register for a different level of her dance classes and the system won't let her schedule for the second session saying there is a conflict because it is a duplicate of the first session. We know this isn't correct because 1 session is M and W, and the other session is T and Th. Also the required dance company classes have a different time than what originally showed at orientation so there is now a conflict with her Chem lab. And of course, all of the Chem classes are full now! Grrrr She is in Columbia now for the 3 week dance intensive, so hoping she can meet with department head and get this figured out!

I was going to say I’d address dance issues with that department in person - they should be able to make change in dance class level (maybe they have to place her in second level if she is bypassing first one). With regards to Chem, just keep checking every day or, if the lecture time is all the same and different sections are just different lab times, maybe hit facebook and see if someone wants to switch lab times. Or again, go beg your case with chem department in person - maybe can get override.

Contact Lakesha Campbel (803.777.4681 — LCampbel@mailbox.sc.edu) and ask about the Dance classes. She’s the one who handles overrides in the department and she can probably answer questions about getting into another class or what exactly your daughter needs to take.

For chem, just email/call the department and see what you can do. If you can’t get into anything, then just have your daughter check back every day into the first few days of the semester. What chem class is it? If it’s something like 101, then there will be lots of sections, and an opening will definitely come up somewhere. If it’s one of the more particular ones (like a non-major chem), then spots are harder to come by and she may just need to take a different course this semester.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll pass it on to D!
