Scholars taking Honors classes?

Does anyone know if Scholars students can sign up for honors classes? Is there a way to petition to do this or get on a waiting list?
thanks!

My understanding is that, in short, honors classes are restricted to students in honors college.

However, there are two types of honors classes - those designated under “HONR” (so honors department/college) and honors versions of regular classes.

I’ve heard rumors you try to sign up for an h-version of a regular class (like math, for example has MATH241 and MATH241H)…don’t know if there’s any truth to that, but if so, I imagine preference is given to students in honors college… but this possibility does not apply to an HONR class. So, if interested in an h-version of a class, that is a good question for the advisers when you sign up for classes at orientation.

FYI, after completing freshman year, you can try to apply to honors as a current student [Honors College University of Maryland](http://honors.umd.edu/prospective-current.php) OR become part of honors college through department honors (some departments will qualify as early as sophomore year, but engineering department qualifies junior year) [Honors College University of Maryland](http://honors.umd.edu/departmentalhonors.php)

There is also a really cool honors program called QUEST that freshman can apply to in the spring… [QUEST - Robert H. Smith School of Business - University of Maryland, College Park](http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/quest/whatisquest/)

Hope this helps.
