Scholarship appeals success ?

I’m thinking it is probably much easier to succeed in a score appeal than a GPA appeal.

Hope your right as his GPA is well over what they require

We faxed the appeal 12/9 and received the letter in the mail 12/17. Good Luck! If your children decide on Temple will they live in 1300 Honors LLC? There is so much to think about!!!

Thanks for all the help ! Hopefully we hear back soon, the wait is driving me bonkers !

If our son gets in to honors he’ll probably live in 1300. Otherwise he’d probably pick Johnson, since it’s next to the film department. They have a LLC there. Regardless, we need to get the housing deposit in soon. Since he sent his appeal in close to the deadline I’d expect a reply to take a little longer, especially with the weather.

@Anegada1

If he is serious about committing, did you tell this to Temple in so many words?

Also did you run the net price calculator to see if you would qualify for any other aid?

I sent an email to our main recruiting contact to the effect that we were anxious to hear back as he would commit on the offer of President’s scholarship but got no response. I am unsure if he passed that info onto the decision maker or not. While we are far from wealthy, my wife and I make a very comfortable living. I don’t anticipate any aid beyond what he earns academically ( makes the full tuition all the more important to us ). Appreciate the thoughts and advice. I had thought about emailing Alex ( the recruiter ) again, but don’t want to be such a pain that it creates a negative tone

Yes, I can understand that, hopefully you will get a good answer soon!

I am in the same boat! I thought they superscored but obviously not! I have a 32 superscored and I also have a 36 in the writing! The highest score from one sitting is a 31. I really wanted the President’s Scholar but looks like its gonna be miracle if I get it. I just submitted my app so hopefully I will get a decision… I AM SO SCARED :frowning:

I wish our son could give you guys who came up a little short on test scores some of his points. He’s way over the SAT cutoff for President’s but his gpa kept him from even getting Provost’s. His only shot is the slim hope that making NMSF will get him bumped up (someone in admissions said it was a possibility).

Evan got upgraded to Provost Scholarship. Not quite what we hoped for but certainly better than no scholarship advancement.

Congrats @Anegada1 ! I also have Provost. My SAT was over the cut for presidential, but my unweighted GPA was 3.6 I was disappointed at first because my weighted was higher but Provost is at least a viable option. With Provost he will get into honors, too. Getting into honors and Fox Business honors has pretty much sealed the deal for me, as the perks of those programs are valuable, i e, small class sizes, priority registration, etc. Waiting for some other stuff to come back before I pull the trigger just to be sure, but at this point 99.9% I’m an Owl.

We’re still waiting, but S didn’t send in his appeal until Jan. 12.

Congrats @Anegada1!

Good luck @mstomper and congrats @Anegada1! I hope that both of your children decide to be an Owl!

the priority registration is huge for those who at least get Provost. my son was able to register for classes as a sophomore ahead of seniors.

Putting down deposits this weekend and he is excited about this new chapter. My only disappointment is that I never got a answer from the admissions department as to why they superscore the SAT but not the ACT despite me asking the question directly on multiple occasions. That said, I think this is the right school for our son !

it is right one for my son. Welcome to Temple!!!

We haven’t heard anything regarding our son’s appeal. Either he or my wife should probably make a call, since I don’t have enough uninterrupted time at the elementary school where I work. Provost’s or Dean’s, Temple’s where he’s going to be next year.

mstomper, yeah!!! i know we have talked and all of you felt Temple was a good match for him. So glad it’s worked out and he’s decided to join us. There are other ways to get stipends outside of the Provost scholarship. Not sure they are called stipends they but we have seen various opportunities out there through Temple. Yes, they will be very very competitive but with your son’s SAT score, it’s clear he has the ability to be competitive for anything he wants to excel at. Does he have a major yet?

and WELCOME!!! please feel free to contact me for any parent related issues well honestly over the next 4 years!! Also, let him know he has to take a placement test for English and math, neither are a big deal but he will need to do both i think before he is allowed to register for classes. They uses these tests along with ACT/SAT scores to place each student at the right level of math and English, he may be in range to be placed in higher classes to start with. Eg. some kids placed out of freshman English. The English placement test was an essay. i can’t remember what math was. There is also a foreign language test which i think is optional and i think STEM students may have other testing, which im not sure if it is mandatory or optional.

i’ve gathered that neither of our boys are overly keen on extra testing so i wanted to give your family a heads up that this may be still be a necessary requirement. Mine procrastinated on taking the placement tests but did well once he got to it and i don;t think he found them too bad at all.
