Scholarship appeals success ?

Just wanted to see if anyone had any insights to how flexible the appeals process is ? Here is my son Evan’s situation. He was accepted with a Dean’s scholarship . He has a 30 ACT and a 3.88 GPA. Evan took the ACT 3 times getting a 30 each time but his super score is a 32. Temple super scores SAT but not ACT ! If they applied an even playing field to the tests he would qualify for the full tuition President’s Scholarship. We have sent in an appeal letter detailing that along with his active involvement in Sports, school activities, geographic diversity ( we are from Nebraska ), Eagle Scout etc. We also pointed to his perfect 36 on the optional writing assessment as reasons for reconsideration. Just trying to get a feel for whether we are going to run up against a brick wall here. Thanks for any input anyone can provide.

My son was 10 SAT points below the full tuition level and we appealed and they gave it to him. Good luck!!

Appreciate the feed back ! Fingers crossed !

Our son just composed his appeal. Hopefully it will be successful. The admissions person said his NMSF status could help him.

Good luck to your son ! Fingers crossed mstomper !

How do you go about the appeal process? My high school never received my June SAT scores, and as a result my lower January ones were sent, which robbed me of a full scholarship! I sent my June ones priority through CB, but who should I contact to appeal? Thanks!!

@tighemom

@Anegada1 it probably would help if you agreed to accept and enroll if he received the presidential

@kh1255

you should have sent the June SAT scores yourself directly from CB when you applied to Temple.

Agree, your high school isn’t responsible for getting any scores to colleges, you are.

@Anegada1 also, is the 3.88 core classes only, which is how Temple applies their own process to determine GPA.

The 3.88 is the number that Temple came up with jnkam24. ClarinetDad16, did not think of that although he did tell them they were his top choice. I wonder if we should let them know after the fact that he would accept if they offered President’s scholarship ?

@Anegada1 it could not hurt

I remember reading something on their scholarship chart that you can still submit test scores until sometime in January. In case someone wanted to retake. Yes, it says “deadline to appeal for additional scholarship monies based on new testing information is January 15.”

For anyone who needs federal or state aid (PA) it also says to do FAFSA as soon as possible after Jan 1 and that they will start processing financial aid packages on Feb 15.

whoever intends to appeal, FILE immediately, if you are domestic, ie you live within states, deadline is the 15th and Temple NEEDS everything in their possession, you may have to express send your scores.

some intl rules are different if you are an international applicant

@KH1255 We faxed the director of undergraduate admissions. Good luck. Sorry for the delay in response, I’m not on CC regularly!!

S faxed everything on 1/12. We’re hoping the fact that he was NMSF will nudge him up to Provost’s.

Also, for what its worth, my son has not formally accepted yet… no deposit… but appeal was granted and he was nudged up to full tuition. It never hurts to try!!!

@tighemom, how long was it before he got an answer on the appeal? Our son is wondering. And how was he notified?

We sent in our appeal on January 5th and are still waiting. I called a few days ago and they said they were not sure it ever was put on the desk of the decision maker but they supposedly have done so now. Frustrating as he intends to accept if they raise him to the Presidents scholarship.
