scholarship/award money after acceptance?

Or maybe it was a stellar essay, or outstanding recommendations or strong enthusiasm for Pitt that got you the scholarship. It's really hard to say what factors come into play for scholarships. In any case, congratulations!

The criteria for top scholarships is somewhat obscure. arachno, I didn't mean that you are not deserving of a scholarship. I simply meant that of Pitt's nine scholarships listed, seven of them are to "promote diversity", whereas there is only the one engineering school scholarship and the chancellors scholarship competition that is open to everybody. Now if you don't "promote diversity" and don't go to engineering school, you are only eligible for one out of nine scholarships. Many students are immediately excluded from consideration for most of the scholarships. Not very good odds.

Congratulation to you aracho. Pitt's method of handing out money in no way detracts from your accomplishment.

^^^ah, i see.

well, thanks for the congrats, MD_Mom and lkf725!

"We only could assume that son didn't win the chancellors because, even after several inquirey calls, we never got a letter."

Lkf725, calling might not work, but they say you can send a written request that your profile be reviewed again. I didn't get the Chancellor's letter initially, but I wrote them and they did (presumably) look at my profile again and they sent me a letter saying I could apply for the Chancellor's. So I'd recommend writing them (and soon, since time's running out).
