Really like Ursinus and wondering if anyone could tell me what the chances are I would get any merit aid?

I would say your chances for merit aid are very good. If the process is still the same, you will likely be invited to campus to “compete” for a scholarship in March. There was no real competition, D1 just had to interview with a professor for ~15 minutes.

You have an excellent chance at merit aid. Since you are just outside the top 10% of your class you will have to report your test scores. But your test results are well above the 75th percentile for Ursinus so they should only enhance your application. Good luck.

They do have a process where they invite students for additional interviews whom they have identified as potential scholarship recipients. I can’t say if they invite everyone they are considering, or just those whom they want to get an additional look at who might be on the bubble. If I remember correctly, my daughter went for the interview in February, but I could be mistaken. I will try to see if I can find any more information on it and post back.

any idea of the notification process for possible merit scholarships? son was admitted back in november, and no information re scholarships or contact since. it would be difficult to visit due to distance and school schedules unless for possible merit aid.

D1 (Ursinus class of '12) was admitted in September, received an invitation in February to come in March to interview for a merit award. In between we got a couple of generic notes from the president.

I think Ursinus requires FAFSA and the CSS Profile to be completed to be considered for merit aid. (Otherwise I don’t think we would have bothered…we could tell by the online estimators that we wouldn’t qualify for need-based aid.)

However, we only had to fill them for freshman year. Now D1’s scholarship renews automatically as long as she keeps a 3.0 GPA.

I don’t think Ursinus requires FAFSA / CSS for merit aid. S was offered a merit scholarship even though we checked the box “not applying for need-based financial aid.”

thanks for all the advice…i figured i would update and say that i just received my letter (20k per year!! :D) without filling out the FASFA or CSS profile yet

Does anyone know when we should expect to hear back from specific scholarships that required an application? I applied for the creative writing award, but if I already received merit aid, will that preclude me from winning it?

I applied to Ursinus because it was a free application and they had a combined medical program. They never sent me a formal rejection letter from the combined program (I got into the school itself), but told me that I didn’t get into the combined program when I called.

This was Decemeber. I crossed Ursinus off my list and never looked back…until today, when I got some mail from Ursinus, saying that I’m a Zacharias scholar and that I get $30,000 a year. I didn’t have an interview, nor did I send an essay. Weird…

these inconsistencies may be consistent for Ursinus… Nice school with a nice campus, but something seems awry. One friend reports that their son got admitted with a scholarship even though he also lost interest and did not finish his application… Weird…

are they giving money so easily to attract high caliber students perhaps?
I hope so because the award my daughter got is the factor that’s making the decision between Ursinus and a great in-state school so difficult…
