Got my acceptance on Saturday. Checked through that link and nothing comes up. It just says congratulations on being admitted. Nothing about being a candidate. I really hope I'm a trustee or maybe even presidential. Without it, I can't even consider going there... =(

Is there still a shot that I get a nice letter in the mail soon? I live in Maryland by the way so I figure my acceptance took at least a day extra to arrive.

Sequoia mentioned Presidential candidates can end up be offered a Deans scholarship (post #239). It is also possible a Trustee scholarship candidate will ultimately be offered a Deans scholarship. Just so you know.

poisondart, look at the website that offers Explore reservations. Click on it and see what dates you are offered. This is how some find out they will be offered interviews for the big scholarships.

Explore 1 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Monday, April 06, 2009
Explore 2 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Monday, April 13, 2009
Explore 3 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Thursday, April 16, 2009
Explore 4 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM on Monday, April 20, 2009

Those are the dates for the regular Explore sessions. Unless the site has not been updated for recent admittees, USC appears to be doing things differently this year. I think it's possible that those with early acceptances who do not have the Trustee/Pres notifications are up for the Dean's Scholarship, which will not require an interview.

That's what I was thinking and hoping wasn't true... I can't pay 40 grand a year for school instead of 50 grand. That's hardly worth having worked for haha. Still a lot of debt. Hopefully they just haven't updated scholarship info...

It's good to be optimistic but I'm willing to bet that I'm up for the Dean's... 75% of a very expensive tuition is still very expensive. Haha

Thanks arcticdragon and madbean for answering my last question, I'm not planning on jumping ship right now, it would be quite messy and I think I have a much better chance of nailing a business school interview than anything else.

One more question -- how do these merit scholarships work on top of regular finaid??? or how do those mix? if i get trustee, the total bill will be around 13000/yr which is below my EFC so i'll be expected to pay that, right?

There is a reason why some students might turn down Trustee scholarship is that they might have been admitted to the like of Harvard/Stanford and their family income is less than $180K. That means they only pay 10% of Harvard/Stanford tuition. I have a friend who told me he paid $2K/year for his daughter at Stanford.

By the fact that I don't even know what EFC stands for, I promise mine would literally be zero. Unfortunately that means only merit can do... and apparently it can't do much if my theory is correct.

scholarships don't affect your EFC. they only diminish what the university needs to pony up to make the difference between your EFC and tuition. on the bright side, it also means that should a scholarship not cover you the difference between EFC and tuition, financial aid will still offer up it's collection of grants and work study and loans. and if i understand the system correctly, scholarships won't go against your portfolio. the amount is usually taken out of what you'd be expected to take out of loans.

i know a couple of people who have presidential but have so much in other financial aid packages that they save a LOT more money than I (i have a trustee).

btw, @ poisondart90, EFC stands for Expected Family Contribution. it's what financial aid determines what a student, given their financial background, should pay for college.

Haha I knew what it meant... just not what it stood for. Well I know that mine would be more of a hassle to apply for than it'd be worth. I would legitimately get no financial aid. Oh well... guess it's only fair.

I'm still convinced that everyone who has received an acceptance at this point is up for one of the big two scholarships. They just may not have been notified of the scholarship yet because it comes a few days after the acceptance. The links just may not be all updated yet.

It seems that the first two waves, Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, were Trustee and Presidential candidates. The wave this coming week, Feb. 6, could be for Deans (?)

We are going to have take a survey this coming week of all those accepted so far. We need to get a accurate time-line for scholarship notifications.

im not so sure cc411, i got my acceptance today (in Australia, postmarked 1/28) and my explore USC reservation still does not mention anything about the big scholarships and all my reservation dates are in April. I hope you're right, but im not holding my breath for either of the two big scholarships so far

cc411, if you go back and look at pages 6, 7, 8, etc... of this thread, there were several posters last year in the early acceptances who were not interviewed for scholarships.

My acceptance letter was postmarked 1/26 and I received an interview for the BMD program postmarked 1/28. But I haven't received a scholarship letter & my explore USC website doesn't mention a scholarship.

I'm obviously just speculating so sorry if I am getting false hopes up...

OK, so I looked at page 6, 7, and 8 of this thread. I found five members complaining about not receiving a scholarship letter after an early acceptance.

-Katnin- apparently did eventually did receive a letter because later announced receipt of a Presidential scholarship.

-caliboi1313- acceptance was dated 2/1 and received a Dean's.

-inthemoney, mjchiu2k, epicclical- they all seemed to receive their acceptance before 2/1 and I couldn't find if they eventually did receive scholarship notification. But all three were invited for a bacc/md interview.

So, I don't know- I could be wrong, but it SEEMS that everyone here on CC who was accepted before 2/1 last year either was invited to interview for one of the big two scholarships or was invited to interview for a bacc/md.

Can anyone find more info about this from last year? We will definitely have to do a survey for this year.
