Scholarship Interviews

Did anyone else get an invitation to interview for a scholarship? I’m a finalist for the Chancellor’s Scholarship, and I was wondering how many people are typically selected to interview for it.

Would you mind sharing how and when you were notified and your Stats? Waiting for information but don’t know if it will be mailed or emailed.

@aLittleStitious when and how did you receive an invite?

I just logged in to see if anyone had received notification. @aLittleStitious ,would love some details! Nothing here. :frowning:

I read somewhere they select 30 semi-finalists, but I’m not sure if that’s accurate. I haven’t heard that they offer any “consolation” scholarships either.

Did anyone receive an OOS tuition waiver?

@Redi2cruise2024 and @croaswife - I called App State to ask about other scholarship opportunities and, in the process, learned that everyone selected for first round of interviews has been notified and interviews are this weekend.

No luck here…0 for 3 now. Hope you had better news!

@TrendaLeigh , thanks for the information. No luck here either then. My DS didn’t apply for Honors and I realize some of the merit tied to that criteria. App is not his first choice, but I was secretly hoping that a nice merit offer would have moved them up the list. Thanks again and best of luck!

@TrendaLeigh I’m so confused about App’s timeline online and what you are telling me here. What about Scholars Day in February for Chancellors Interviews? See here: https://honors.appstate.edu/scholarships/chancellors-scholarship/application-selection

I’m interviewing for the Willie C. Fleming scholarship in about 10 minutes, had my interview for the diversity scholarship done 45 minutes ago. No idea how many are selected for any of the scholarships, to be honest. I was notified via my portal around January 10th of being selected. Good luck to everyone.

Good luck @etj912!

@croaswife, I believe the first round of interviews are phone-based - they will then select students to continue to the next round, which is the in-person Scholar’s Day.

Her admissions counselor also followed up and confirmed that everyone who was in consideration had already been notified. I was honestly a bit surprised she didn’t make at least the first cut… :frowning:

@etj912, Hope the interview went well!

DS did not receive an invite so this probably moved App down his list a bit. He was accepted at both NC State and UNC-CH yesterday. He also did get Scholarship offers at Clemson and UofSC as well so I really hoped that App would have show interest as it was one of our hopefuls for acompetitive merit offer. Considering the competitiveness of these schools I will admit I am a little disappointed that App did not find a fit for him in their review for consideration aside from the Excellence Award.

Congratulations to all that received interviews and to those of us who did not, I am sure that there are amazing opportunities that await you with or without the merit. Just remember App will deliver a quality education the applicants would not have applied.

@Redi2cruise2024 same story here :frowning:

What about Honors decisions? Are those already out as well? We have heard nothing.

I asked my counselor, and she said decisions for honors college should be out by mid-February and the Residential College assistant director said their decisions would be out soon. So hopefully by mid-Feb we will know.

@TrendaLeigh , @croaswife , thanks for the support!

At one point yesterday, on the official ASU scholarship website, it said that 170 were selected in total to interview for all of the signature scholarships. I went to go find it to show you all, but it has since been changed and shortened to the message “Winners will be announced by February 18th on their MyMountaineer Portal”.

No idea why they altered it - very odd.

Also, this may be a dumb question, but what exactly is Scholars Day? From what I’ve heard, it’s just a day of interviewing potential scholarship recipients. Do all scholarship recipients have to attend or is Scholars Day only for specific scholarships such as Watauga, Honors, and Chancellors?

I called the Honors College yesterday to ask about Scholars Day. I didn’t know if it was just for scholarship interviews or open to other students like maybe Honors College admits. I was told all the scholarship interviews were being done via Skype/video chat and not via on campus Scholars Day. So to me it sounded like there is no Scholars Day this year. Or perhaps it is for winners only? Either way DD won’t be part of it and our calendar has now been cleared. Still hoping she gets into Honors College.

@etj912 I wish you the best in the selection process!

I got the Diversity Scholarship! Does anyone else have any news?

Congratulations @etj912!!!

@Redi2cruise2024 thanks so much!
