Scholarship Interviews

For scholarships, such as the Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony scholarship, how are students qualified or given the award?

I know in high schools, juniors are given the chance to receive the award, but do not actually qualify yet for the scholarship.

We have a set of scholarships that students become eligible for when nominated for the corresponding award by their high schools. For instance, a recipient of the Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award is automatically eligible for the Fredrick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Scholarship. The criteria that we use to determine whether or not the scholarship is given is the exact same criteria we use to determine a students admissibility (i.e. transcript, interview, essay, letters of recommendation, etc.). Not all recipients of the award are granted admission or given the scholarship. Those who are given the scholarship will be notified via e-mail as part of their financial aid package.

Similar awards that lead to potential scholarships are: The Xerox Award, The George Eastman Young Leaders Award (formerly known as the Kodak award), and The Bausch and Lomb Award.

Every applicant is automatically considered for our other scholarships.

So, I’m a finalist for the Renaissance scholarship, I e-mailed confirming my attendance. I haven’t received a confirmation for this e-mail, should I be expecting one? When do we find out our itinerary and etc. It’d also be nice to contact our host student before hand to know blankets… pillows… etc.

So, chances are that if I were nominated for the Renaissance scholarship, I would have heard by now?

yes most likely. Especially since we have to rsvp by friday and say if we are planning to attend or not.

@ shay_888,
I’m also a finalist for the Renaissance interview :)

I called the admission lady about confirmation emails, she said we’ll be receiving mails/emails about the itinerary and interview info next week!

haha I’m excited! :D!

Congrats to all Renaissance finalists. You should be extremely proud.

Julia - I also received an e-mail yesterday. I’m very excited!! I hope people don’t get cut throat and competitive though :(

nah,
haha
we’ll all be nice to each other :).

So… what to wear for the interview?!

clothes preferably

Yeah, I was thinking that too. That’s usually a common thing to wear.

Hey… just wanted to put your mind at ease. The Renaissance Interviewing Event is never cut-throat or ultra competitive - in fact, many students left last year’s event feeling as if they had made a whole new group friends, and they created a facebook page just for the group to keep in touch. In addition to highly qualified students, we also try to select nice people for the scholarship!

Also… casual attire is appropriate for the majority of your visit, however, you may want to bring something slightly more ‘professional’ for the first dinner and the interviews. That doesn’t necessarily mean a suit and tie or a dress, but something a little more formal is a good idea.

And just remember… we’ve already seen your applications. We know how great you are - just be yourselves and have fun and everything else will fall into place.

Thank you Mconklin. I’m very excited for my visit, but I hope I don’t have any missed (connecting) flights!

You never can tell with the airline industry. Please travel safe!

Are all of the scholarship interviews on Friday? I see it’s only from 9:30-12:30, and they’re supposed to last 30 minutes. Are there multiple interviews going on at once, or are interviews taking place on Thursday too?

All interviews are hosted on Friday morning. There are a handful of Rens candidates that interview each half hour with a combination of Admissions Staff, University Faculty/ Administration, and student interviewers.
