Scholarship letter

Hi everyone!
So, I just received a letter from UTD and it's promising a scholarship that "covers all UT Dallas tuition and mandatory fees (eight semesters, four academic years), and a $44,000 cash stipend per semester."
Now, I obviously realize that something went wrong as they wrote this letter, but isn't that an awkward typo to make? Especially as they make a big deal throughout the entire letter about how the offer is real?

Yes, we got the same letter today! We all had a good laugh and informed my son that he could finance his twin sister’s college education with just his leftover stipend money. Clearly a serious typo!

Our son got the letter too, although an enclosure correctly had the stipend at $4,000. We thought perhaps the “typo” was intentional; thus the many phone calls that the letter apparently prompts. Darn, I guess he won’t be buying a new Porsche every year after all!

Hahaha okay good! My dad read the letter and started freaking out! I showed him the certificate and tried to tell him that it’s supposed to be $4,000, but he said we should request it anyway. rolls eyes
But okay, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me :)

Congratulations to all who have been awarded the AES scholarship. I was wondering which category I would fall under. My stats: SAT: 1420 (M+R), 4.9 weighted GPA, 11 AP classes. Though I have maintained good grades, my class rank has unfortunately been hindered because of my frequent family relocations and attendance in four different high schools. So, what would be my chances? Thanks.

Yes, it was disappointing to get the correction note. We were hoping he could finish college with enough to pay for med school. Must go to plan B.

What classification of AES were you guys awarded? From my knowledge the highest AES awards 3000 per semester and the middle one, distinction, awards 1000/semester. I am unacquainted with any other AES besides of the three basic ones: achievement, distinction, and honors. What AES were you guys awarded that you got 4000/semester in stipends

I have applied to DT dallas in the last week for Feb '13. What are my chances of getting Academic Distinction Scholarship?

My stats: SAT: 1420 (M+R), super score 2080, 4.9 weighted GPA, 11 AP classes. Though I have maintained good grades, my class rank has unfortunately been hindered because of my frequent family relocations and attendance in four different high schools.

Thank you

I received the distinction scholarship with an SAT of 2040 and a CR+M of 1350. My class rank was in the top 1% and I had loads of extracurriculars though and the avg for distinction last year was a 1440 i might have got it because i applied early but based off your stats you are definitly a contender for the distinction if not the honors!

Congratulation naokuvi. Thank you so much for sharing your stats. Please let me know when did you apply? what was the total processing time it took until u receive the scholarship letter? what is your GPA?

I have applied to UTD in the last week of Feb '13, does it make any difference because UTD says that “Priority consideration for scholarships is given to students who are admitted to the University by March 1?”

Thank you! Here are the rest of my stats: Rank 7/567 GPA: 4.2 Weighted 4.0 Unweighted. Extracurriculars: HOSA President, Committee Chair, Sergeant of Arms, and Texas Area 5 Vice-President, Mu Alpha Theta Founding Chapter Member, Interact Treasurer, NHS, etc. (you get the idea I was pretty involved in my school). Volunteer: 300+ hours accumulated (i only listed around 200 on my UTD application though). I applied around late September/Early October of 2012 before they even started reviewing for the AES scholarships for the Fall 2013 students. As such I didn’t receive my AES offer until late December. I believe you should hear back around a month after applying if you don’t hear back I suggest spam calling the AES office (they don’t pick up their phone often) or emailing the program head requesting information regarding your AES status. Im pretty sure applying early does help. The average for the AES Distinction last year was a 1440 which is nearly 100 points over my 1350 CR+M score. My friend who applied right when the application got it but had a 1320 CR+M but he was in the first pool of applicants reviewed. Remember they have a set money set aside for scholarships and as you apply later and later this set of money will be diminishing and they will be more picky on who recieves the money left. If you already have these documents available I suggest sending in a resume and a few (up to 3) recommendation letters. One of my friends who applied to UTD got the achievement scholarship and called the AES head to ask for a reconsideration as he retook his SAT. She suggested also sending in a resume and recommendation letters even though she did say there is a chance the committee that gives AES may not read it…but there is also a chance they will. Sorry this is a really long post just wanted to be detailed as possible for you and any other people with questions on the AES.

Thank you naokuvi

Hi @naokuvi and @mikejohn, guys, please help me out with 2 questions
I’ve discovered UT Dallas a long time ago, been reading but I always thought that the Distinction Award was not open to international students, because of this quote: “Distinction Scholarship reduces the approximate cost of attendance at UT Dallas from $22,246 to $8,440 each academic year”.

Therefore, I seriously spent a long time regretting that I can never attend UT Dallas, as I love the Speech Language Pathology program of the school.

Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I now realize I never verify this fact.
So my questions are:

Is the Academic Distinction Award open to international students ?
Then the “Total estimated value over four academic years: $55,224” would not be true, for out-of-state students, too.

Today is March 25, students who are accepted before or on March 31 may apply. So, do I still stand a chance with this Award ?
My stats: CR+Math 1440, superscore 2140, GPA 8.8/10 => about 3.7/4

Please if anyone can help, please reply to me, I feel so dumb right now.

or you can help yourself by asking directly. aes@utdallas.edu.

@thinktry I would call the AES office and figure it out. They are really bad about picking up their phone but if you call between the hours of 2PM-3PM (when most high school students and UTD students are still in classes) you can get a hold of them. They are pretty good at calling you back if you leave a message though. Idk how the international program works but im just going to go on a limb and say that they probably offer some sort of big scholarship for international students considering the international presence we have here on campus.

Hey thanks @annie2018 and @naokuvi !
Any international students up here who has received the scholarships ?

Hey @naokuvi: my Applytexas.org online application is sent on March 27, so over the weekend, after 2 business days, will it be there on March 31 :frowning: ? And do I even stand a chance of being admitted before or on March 31 ?
Thanks for reading.

@thinktry I dont know to be honest. It takes a week usually just to process applications for people who meet the auto-admission criteria. If u dont meet auto-admission then it might be even longer for u
