I’ve been looking at old threads and trying to gauge, but when does scholarship information typically get released? Particularly for Fairfax and Engineering. I know on UM’s website it says “rolling basis”, but it’s not super specific.
Merit scholarships should be announced between mid/late Feb and early April. Top scholarship winners will be invited to the Amaizin’ Blue preview held in early April while the invitation will be sent in early March.
The fairfax for early action was announced like a couple weeks ago.
^ That’s early. It was usually announced near the end of February.
@billcsho I applied early and I received it in the beginning of January. Also, I think they changed the amount for the scholarship. I searched around and people usually came to a consensus that it will give $10,000 a year. The letter it came with for me said that it will “provide the equivalent of full tuition for four years.”
Actually I just found the Fairfax was announced in late Feb in 2012, but late Jan from 2013 on. I am not surprised if they increased the amount. Fairfax was not a fixed amount. It varies with school and state residence. Sometimes, they combine the scholarships to give a full ride.
Have any other scholarships been announced?
They may announce the merit scholarships earlier this year as they have moved the cutoff admission date eligible to merit aid from Feb 1 to Dec 24.
But don’t a lot of scholarships hinge on the FAFSA being filed? I think it’s that way for the SMTD.
Not for merit.
@choirsandstages Most merit scholarships for freshmen have no need component. For departmental scholarships for sophomore or higher, most require demonstration of needs. Most freshmen received their merit aid notice before submitting or verifying FAFSA.
@billcsho Have people received merit aid notice this year then or are you saying for previous years?
@QueenOfNarnia Yes, there have been reports on merit aid offers already this year (see post #4). This year, they have changed the admission deadline for merit aid consideration from Feb to December. That is probably why they can send out the award notice earlier this year.
Any idea when the College of Engineering merit notifications are coming/have come out? I know 2 years ago, they had already come out by this time.
@stloumom My son got a snail mail letter Friday awarding an OOS Engineering Scholarship of Honor for $20,000 per year, good for 4 years. The scholarship does not show up on Wolverine Access- his FA buttons are locked right now with “no self service access.” We are in the southwestern US. He applied EA and was accepted before Christmas. Good luck to everyone who is waiting!
@archersbow Congrats! The merit scholarship would not be shown on the student account until much later but on the award letter which would be linked on WA. My D got the same scholarship a couple years ago (but for in state) and it was not shown on the first estimated FA Award Letter in early March but on the revised offical award letter in mid May.
Yes, OOS Geissenger scholarships were awarded and received this past week. $20k/yr renewable for Engineering.
@archersbow and @SoProudofMyChildren Thanks for posting & congrats to you!
Would any of the award recipients mind posting any of your general stats? just trying to gauge if i have some sort of a chance
Is it still possible to get merit scholarships if you’re accepted in, say, April?
