Scholarship Question

so i had received my letter of admission back in the fall and then a letter notifying me of a 10k scholarship(for 4 years), is this for out of state? or a program? the letter doesn't mention why i got the scholarship and was hoping any of you could guess what its for?

The scholarship is for any program (depending on which he got accepted for) - if you live outside of PA, it is deducted from the OOS tuition for 4 years. As for why, it is based solely on merit - primarily GPA and SAT scores.

Im OOS(live in NC)

Just FYI, my son chose Pitt over Chapel Hill, but he had a full tuition scholarship. He likes it a lot at Pitt.

The $10K is nice, congrats. But it will still leave quite a price gap between Pitt and your wonderful in-state options, UNC and NC State. You’re cursed to live in the state with the “best value state universities.” :)

Yup, in at nc state but don’t really like it, and deferred till march at chapel hill

The $10K/year is the “half-tuition” merit scholarship that’s given based on your scores. To keep the scholarship, you need to maintain a 3.0 or 3.25 GPA every semester (I would email OAFA to double check which of the two it is if it isn’t in the letter).

Also, I understand not wanting to stay in-state. My in-state schools are fantastic too (UVA, VTech, William&Mary) but I’d rather not go to a school with like a million people that I just went to high school with. And Pitt is a great place!
