When someone posts that they been awarded a scholarship in the amount of $10,000 (or whatever amount), am I correct in assuming that that is the TOTAL amount being awarded and not a PER YEAR award?

No, that’s usually a per year I believe?

It is hard to know for sure what each poster means without their clarification but I can say that when my kid got scholarship offers at all of her BFA in MT schools, these were per year and she received the same amount each year after the freshman year. That is typical but not necessarily true for all schools and scholarships.

In my experience, most academic scholarships D was offered ranged from $15k-$30k/year. Most of the private talent scholarships (not school-specific) she’s gotten have unfortunately been only for one year.

I took kksmom’s post to mean scholarships offered through a college, and not independent/private scholarships which tend to be one shot deals.

In our experience, merit scholarships offered from the university are per year, renewable if you keep a specific minimum GPA.

For my daughter her awards both academic and merit have been for all four years. There are additional requirements placed on the student regarding merit awards and maintaining a certain GPA is also required as megpmom stated above.

She did have some one time scholarships from outside sources her first year, but all college offers were per year for all four years.
