Scholarship Thread

Yeah good job! It will bring your tuition down to a more reasonable rate.

BTW, the 36 ACT kid I know hasn't gotten anything. I'm thinking that the admissions people have to be swayed by one's essays to give out money.

Umich is already a great deal anyway, I don't think I'll mind if I don't get anything. My URM friends who got full rides can buy me food :)

wow..there's a lot of racial/gender resentment going on in here O.o

I just got an email from the financial aid office of the college of engineering telling me about a scholarship i qualify for based on my act score. I still haven't even been accepted yet into U of M. lol

Do you think this means i should find out soon?

I didn't apply for any scholarships and now I probably won't. The only downside is that I have to decide if I "want" the scholarship by the end of January...and I still don't know if I REALLY want to go to UMICH.

My son received the same e-mail yesterday.

I got a Regent's Scholarship in the mail today and I was wondering if that would necessary prevent me from receiving any other bigger scholarshps.

ACCEPTED with $60,000 merit scholarship!!!
AWESOME!!!!
AND PENN DEFERRED ME!!
AS Princeton UNiv. says.....PUCK FENN!!!

I'm an OOS student and I was accepted on Dec 4. No scholarship information came in my acceptance package.. and I have not been notified of any scholarships by a separate letter- does this mean I probably will not receive any scholarship $ or should I not give up hope and perhaps it might come later on?

wow... I'm definitely learning the disadvantages of being a caucasian liberal arts major... this is nerve-wracking!

The scholarship letter came one week after the acceptance letter came in the mail.

just got the regents scholarship 1500$ for 4 years

2 weeks after acceptance.

2090 SAT in state 4.0 GPA

congratsss

Good job to those who got stuff.

For everyone else, don't worry; I was talking to my friend who got the LSA scholarship (full tuition). He said that he got in in January sometime, and found out about his scholarship sometime in March.

Don't sweat it folks.

Today my D received the Michigan Scholar Award, $15k per year for 4 years. She was accepted on 12/15, OOS.

Backfire, I think the Regents is only one year not four years, you should read the letter again.

I just got a fat letter in the mail from Michigan, but it was an application for a scholarship through the nuclear engineering department (which I didn't apply to). I haven't even gotten my decision from Michigan yet. I hope there is a scholarship just based on ACT or SAT because I'm definitely not gonna get one for my GPA.

I just got a scholarship today...$60,000k total over 4 years, $7,500 a semester.

Y'all are going to hate me for this...3.7ish UMich GPA, 33 ACT, and 1/4 Hispanic. I personally would hate myself if I got it JUST for being 1/4 Hispanic, which is what some people on here are making it sound like its for. However, I'm thinking I got the scholarship because I said in my short essay that I'd bring diversity to the school because of my mixed-up heritage.

Or that's what I'm telling myself so I don't feel like I've taken advantage of my heritage.

Can somebody confirm for me...is this scholarship REALLY entirely based on ethnic background/geographic location? Or are people like epsilon and evil asian dictator just bitter crybabies? Because if it really were just due to my ethnicity, that would kinda taint the money in my mind. :-</p>

Even if you weren't Hispanic, I believe you would've had a good shot at the scholarship because of your score.

Of course, I'm assuming that you applied very early.

And you really didn't need to mention whether you thought epsilon and evil asian dictor were bitter crybabies or not.

Your ethnicity certainly helped, and "diversity" is one of the university's favorite buzzwords, so your essay probably sealed the deal.

Unbelievable, confused student!
My stats are very similar to yours, I'm 1/4 Hispanic and I ALSO got the $60,000 scholarship. Believe it or not, I also talked about how I would bring an understanding of diversity to UMIch, based on a summer program I did this past summer (a prestigious summer program for underrepresented groups).
I think the scholarship is supposed to be geared toward underrepresented groups.
UMich is now my first choice. I loved the school when I visited and the scholarship really sweetens everything.
I'm OOS, by the way. You are too, right?
