Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I was sort of surprised to find out that I was deffered and if I don't get scholarship money there is no way I could go here.

I would have to say it makes scholarships look unlikely. Being deferred means your application wasn’t strong enough the first time around. Even if you are ultimately accepted you will be competing with students whose applications were deemed to be stronger in the initial review.

Sorry, Lenda, but Erin’s Dad is right. To qualify for scholarships at most schools, your stats (GPA and test scores) would have to be in the top 25-50% for that school.

Do you guys know if they look at weighted or unweighted gpas for scholarships? And does faith play any role in admissions?

I mean, I’m a Catholic kid with a 30 on the ACT I thought I’d be set but I guess not. My GPA isnt as good as it could be, but according to my school’s University of Dayton admittance graph I should have been in easily. For the record I have a 2.95 unweighted GPA and a 3.7 Weighted GPA.

Lenda, are you applying as a class of 2014 student? Unless your prior convictions have come to light ;^) I agree w/you, you should be “in”. I also would have expected you receive between $30-40k. You hould call, it could be a mistake. You are the only person I’m aware of that has received a letter of any kind. I called admissions last week wondering what the delay was and was told letters go out on 1/15.

Yes, I’m applying for the fall of 2010 (class of 2014…hopefully haha).

I recieved a letter about a month ago asking for my 7th semester grades. On the application status check it says that they are awaiting my 7th semester grades as well. I was suspened for two days my soph. year. Could this be why?

Your guidance counselor was supposed to fill out that form about you. What would he/she say about your suspension?

I’m pretty sure all the required forms were filled out. We also have a good relationship so I’m sure nothing bad was said.

Did you take the ACT test a couple of times and possibly sent the “bad” test?

I checked and I sent the correct test. Also, I don’t understand how I was already deffered when they are sending decisions out in mass on 1/15/10.

My daughter was deferred, too. Her GPA is not the best. I’m sure they’ve looked at all the apps that have come in. Some were probably rejects, some are maybes, and some are definites. It’s nice that they let the rejects and maybes know their status right away, as we are the ones that need to have back-up plans.

For anyone wondering, I was very excited today when I learned that I was accepted and offered the President’s Merit Scholarship (12,000 a year). Thanks for all your help.

Congrats to you Lenda! I hope you enjoy UDayton.

Congratulations, Lenda2533!!!

That is great news. :)
