I do not know if I should take this as unfortunate news, or okay news.

After an initial review of your academic credentials, the admissions committee must delay making a decision on your application. Applications for which we are delaying a decision will be reviewed a second time, no later than mid-December. At that time we will review your application while taking into account the strength of our applicant pool. In the meantime, do not hesitate to send additional grade reports and new test scores from your senior year.

As far as I can tell, you're being deffered... Is this from an early decision? Or rolling admissions? It's not BAD news, per se. As far as I can tell it means you are a somewhat weak candidate and they want to see either improvement in your grades in your senior year OR who else applies. Most likely it's the former. I would send an additional letter of rec and quarter grade reports if you really care about the school. Getting deffered is like the ED equivilent of being wait listed. You absolutely still have a chance, you just have to wait it out. Good luck!

I don't know that they'll want to see your grades for this year, since they state they will review it no later than mid-December. If you're on semesters, you won't get your grades until January.

It's possible that they put through the apps that they're certain about, and put on the side any that they need to really read through because they're on the edge. I wouldn't send them anything unless they ask for it.

This is neither unfortunate news or okay news....it's just news. Good luck.

thanks for the info...this school is my top choice...my sister attends as well. I cannot believe I am a weak candidate. I have a 3.6 GPA and a 23 ACT. We'll just have to see what happens.

yeah, that is weird. I got in with a 3.3 and a 23.....but I also applied in mid-august. Just send in some recent grades and rec's and maybe that will bump you up. At least it will let them know that you're still interested.

Okay, again, I must state that you folks are trying to compare apples with what may be oranges.

Scout, you've already explained that due to a medical condition they probably looked at, that it probably made a difference in your case.

JayJohnson, I can only assume you're an underrepresented minority or something else is going on that makes a difference in your case as well.

You can't compare yourselves to anyone else and be shocked that they're not getting in if they're a) not an underrepresented minority or b) don't have medical issues that Admissions is going to take into consideration.

Todd, do you have a copy of a progress report that you could send them? It couldn't hurt, and they did say to send any new grades. I hope you get in.

Oregonianmom:
".....they did say to send any new grades."

My bad, they sure did say that. I was multi-tasking and missed it the first time I read his post.

IU08:
" This is very weird. I recently was accepted with a 3.2 UW (3.4W) with a 25..I am a minority so maybe that helped?"

Yes, if you're a minority they will take you with lower scores. That's the point I've been trying to make. You can't compare yourself as a minority or with a medical condition and say, "That's weird....I got in...."

Todd, they still may decide to take you but like Oregonianmom has said, send in anything you can to help your case.

yeah i dunno, im not a minority. But I did apply as undecided instead of business because I thought my chances of getting in would be better since I knew I wasnt going to get direct admit.

update My dad called without telling me which I was a little upset about and he said that they were suprised when they pulled out my file. They said they will look at it again and to look for an answer in at least 2 weeks.
