does nyu give out any sort of merit scholarships, or anything for that matter? also, more specifically, does the music school give out performance based scholarships based on auditions? I'm looking to audition for jazz performance.

hola???????

yes, they do give merit scholarships. What they look for is something i am not sure of. they did say they also look if you are need-based. that means you must have financial need for it.

In a letter last year from the president, he stated that they are going to eliminate merit aid and focus more on need-based aid. NYU is notorius for giving out lousy financial aid.

oh splendid, well looks like i can cross nyu off my list. what do they do with all of their money?

i heard they mostly spending it on constructing a new or renovating extensively the waverly (science) building and renovations throughout the whole campus. they are also spending it to add more study aboard locations.

The school is tuition dependent, not so much endowment. But I would apply, you never know what you will end up getting. Some people do get way more than others.

NYU > Undergraduate Admissions > Financial Aid > Scholarships

Yes, NYU does give both merit and need-based scholarships. some are pretty generous ($25,000) and that's actually why i'm here after being somewhat disappointd by my other decisions. (class of '12)
I think NYU looks for all-around strong stats, and they seem to like National Merit finalists (I didn't get the scholarship that involves nm but i know someone who did) and siemens people. I'm not sure about tisch's scholarships but you should call them up directly and ask. definitely apply.

My kid in a freshmen in Tisch (drama) and got two scholarships which definitely added up to a nice amount of money. They certainly don't cover nearly everything, but those scholarships, along with some modest loans and other aid that I am entitled to by way of my employer, meant she could go to her dream school.

It really depends on what school of NYU you are applying to. Not sure about CAS and Gallatin. Steinhardt and Tisch still give out talent based merit aid. Steinhardt used to give out academic merit aid, but it was changed last year. Now only talent exists. Stern to my understading gives out no merit aid.

Washington Square News - Endowment, boosted by donors, hits $2.5 billion

Their endowment is 1/3 of Univ of Penn. Not all of that money is being given out as scholarships so don't start salivating about getting your share just yet :-)

i recommend applying for regular decision and send in your FAFSA.
