I was wondering if anyone could help me out...

I am accepted to Tisch/CAP21's summer program (the non-audition based one) and am thrilled! However, I simply cannot afford the program. I applied for a scholarship through Tisch, but I was not offered any financial aid. I would love to attend the program, but it does not seem as though I will be able to due to monetary concerns. However, does anyone know where one might seek out financial aid/scholarships to attend such a program?

Thanks for any and all help!

WE feel your pain. MY D also got accepted and we are in the process of trying to get together funding as well. If you look on fastweb and other online scholarship websites there are some that HS juniors can apply to for cash awards. You may find some that require essays, etc that you could try. Local community organizations, your church, etc in your area may award scholarships for students to study in the summer as well. Don’ t give up without a try. Best of luck!

i’m dealing with the exact problem…if i can’t find at least the $4186.50 by April 24th, I’m probably not going to go. it’s pretty frustrating, and i feel like it’s really a once-in-a-lifetime chance that sounds absolutely amazing…

We do a lot of creative financing at our house to try to make summer (and year-round training) happen. Since payment deadlines are looming, it may be too late for this summer…but here are some thoughts.

My daughter has been fortunate (and still waiting to hear this year!) to receive funding from our state’s Gifted Kids Association – it’s essays and letters of recommendation and test scores, but they have offered some dollars the past 3 years (and fingers crossed for 2009!) She has also asked that any gifts from grandparents, etc. be in the form of $$ to be put in the summer fund. We’ve used ebay for selling items, and participate in as much market research as we can get selected for. (Today, I’m off to do a shampoo study.) Around here, car washes are big – a bank lends their parking lot and water to a group (you and friends?) and you work a day for donations. None of these offer big bucks, but over a year’s time, they DO add up.

You may (underscore the maybe!) be able to talk to the program about a payment plan – in the current economy, programs would rather have your money than not, and might be willing to work with you.

It is frustrating, and I do feel your pain. Every summer becomes a question of whether my kiddo will be able to attend the summer study programs to which she’s been accepted. But even if you can’t pull it off to go away, remember there are local options for you – maybe a summer performance in the community, a chance to really focus with your voice teacher (w/out homework getting in the way!), summer dance lessons at a new place.

Good luck!
