Soserene,

The scholarships are tuition only unfortunately. Unless they offer something more. It's a huge value already, so I am not sure if it is a possibility.

For scholarships, I'm assuming scores are weighted more than GPA? I'm a current junior who will be applying for 2010 admissions. My GPA is crap, probably ~92% by the time I apply, but by some really, really crazy, completely deranged fluke, I scored a 2320 (CR-780, M-740, W-800). I'd hope for some major aid too. I'm of a single parent household, and my mother's salary is only about $10k higher than tuition + room and board. Now, I'm still extremely worried about actually getting in, and I'm not trying to get ahead of myself, but that considered, does anyone think I could get anything? FCRH is my first choice, but I wouldn't be able to attend unless I got a very large sum of money, so I don't want to get my hopes up so early for something I won't be able to eventually accomplish.

1370/1600
2100/2400

3.9 UW gpa
lots of leadership positions and EC's.

I was offered the Loyola Scholarship. I'm happy I was offered a scholarship, because I know it was a competative EA round, but as of now I cannot afford it unless they offer me more.

shut up somethingwitty, a 92 GPA is not crappy - and you have a 2320... be serious.

a ~92 avg is crappy? geez....

Sorry! I guess CC has made me a little insecure with everyone having 102.39283's. Weighted I have about a 92. UW, I have about an 89. I haven't worked as hard as I should have in high school, and I've had some medical issues. I'm ranked around 40th in my class of 188, so in my school a 92 is rather crappy.

And yeah. I have a 2320. I took a pretty rigorous prep class, but other than that I don't know how it happened either.

I was wondering what other factors lead to scholarships, because honestly, I'm counting on one to be able to attend, and I think that my numbers are high enough for one (but correct me if I'm wrong?) Anyway, are any of these factors for why I may not receive a scholarship?

1) 150-point difference between Math (610) and CR (760). This equals a 1370 (2140 with writing), which I'm happy with. I know that with the earlier scholarships, even-split was required, but is this true with the scholarships being awarded now?

2) No real "interest" shown (ie, no visits) but I don't know how Fordham considers this.

However, one good factor is that my GPA is good for Fordham, I think (UW 4.0, W 4.3), so maybe that could help (class rank is ~15/ 100)? I also think my ECs are good, personally, but who knows for sure? I like the school and was so happy to be admitted, but really, no scholarship = no go. Thanks for reading all that :)

The biggest scholarships are the Semi-Finalist (National Merit) and the Presidential Scholarship. Do good on your PSATs, since that scholarship is worth full tuition. The presidential one is full ride (room & board), but the recipients are not announced until April. I think only the top 20 students or something of the entire applicant pool are offered that. Hope the info helps.
