No problem… :)

I think you’ll hear very soon since all the testing dates have passed, therefore the school doesn’t need to hold back any awards to see if the student will score higher.

Are you going to apply to the Honors Programs? Are you familiar with them?

Have you visited the campus?

:)

No I wasn’t planning on applying to the honors program.

Nope haven’t made the trip yet, but we’re already making plans to go as soon as we can. We’re all crossing our finger that I love it, because it would be so nice to graduate with little debt! :)

You definitely should apply to the Honors College!

You’ll definitely get into UHP. There are MANY benefits to belonging - including honors housing, priority registration, and honors classes.

Do you have any objections to applying.

^^^

I just wanted to clarify…

Classes in the Honors College are not more difficult. They are smaller in size and because of that, they’re often more discussion-oriented.

Hmm…I’ll go check it out. Doesn’t sound like there are any disadvantages to the honors program!

4bcd3f: Do apply for University honors. The classes, my son said, are wonderful. They max out at 15 students, so you will get to know your classmates and professors. My son took a variety of honors classes this fall, and he really enjoyed them. He’ll take two more in the spring. Also, I cannot say enough good things about priority registration. My son had a ton of AP/dual enrollment credit. He registered for spring classes the second day – with the kids who are juniors. So with priority registration, you should have no need to worry about closed classes.

Ok now I actually have a question!

I still have not gotten my scholarship letter, but I did receive an invite to the Capstone Scholars Day. So probably a dumb question but…
Is this day for all students getting scholarships? The name makes it sound as if it were for only those who received the Capstone Scholarship. I ask this because according to the scholarship page, I should be a UA Scholar.

And, if the answer to that ^ is yes, is this day worth attending? This happens to be during the weekend that I will be visiting Alabama and it would make sense to do the Scholars day.

No, Capstone Scholars Day is for top students that UA really wants. If one gets a merit scholarship, they will probably be invited. No additional scholarships are given this day. The name and day itself are somewhat of a holdover from many years ago when UA didn’t give out so many scholarships and students would get an extra $1-2k for attending. This is no longer the case, but the day is still a great time to visit UA and meet other top students. i highly encourage attending, but also visit the Friday before and take the campus tour and/or meet with professors and administrators.

I think that Capstone Scholars Day is an “honors version” of University Days. I think at CSD, they talk more about the honors program, honors courses, and honors dorms.

I would think that there would be a campus tour involved, but I don’t know. Anyone know?

The day’s schedule won’t be exactly the same as UDays, because UDays is for all students and has a section on Scholarships. That won’t be needed for CSD.

Another question…

Do engineering scholarships come separate? I received my 2/3 tuition but there was nothing about the engineering part.

Yes, I believe they do.

Just to make sure…in MyBama, does it list you as an engineering or comp sci major?

Yes, I believe they do.

If not, your major isn’t listed correctly.

Yes, my major is listed as engineering.

Another mom just posted on another Bama thread that her child’s Engineering scholarship came in a separate letter about a week after getting the university scholarship.

When did you get your UA Scholars scholarship? With the Thanksgiving holiday, there may be a slight delay in receiving your eng’g scholarship.

I got it either Friday or Saturday. Not sure, because I was not able to check the mail from Wednesday-Sunday. Good to know though! I’ll keep watching for it :)

Let us know :)

Question: Should I be worried if I did not receive an invite to CSD?

Weren’t you just accepted? If so, your invite will likely arrive within a week or so. It comes in a separate envelope - more invitation shaped if I remember correctly.

Thanks can’t wait for it.
