scholarships

JohnAdams12- thanks dude. I’m psyched! How was ur financial aid offer?

My D received a package like MedalLily’s. We’re thrilled! Some of us are, anyway. It’s a little hard on the two sisters who didn’t get such great offers and who are still looking at community college as a result.

same here! I have other external scholarships, and hoping to find some more before May 1st for the pseodu-“full ride”

so does this mean all financial aid info is made available or are we still waiting? I received the dean’s scholarship but did not get any loans, work study, etc. When i went to check on wavenet, only the scholarship showed. I have a lot of financial need. I haven;t sent them the forms yet besides fafsa, so are they waiting on those forms?

They are waiting on your forms to confirm ur fafsa report. But all ur financial aid should be online. Though for some it might not be posted until april 1st.

MedalLily,

Congrats on all the aid! I received the dean’s scholarship for 22k but didn’t get any other aid and have an EFC of under 1k. May I ask what your need was? I find it so strange that I did not get any other assistance from the school except loans. Maybe this is because I am transfer student? With a 4.0 I was hoping to get some more merit assistance. I am hoping they might be willing to work with me on my financial aid package. Look forward to hearing back from you. Congrats again  PS – Was the Cal Grant included in your FA package? If anyone has any data to share I would really appreciate the input!

Shopgirl89- thank you! I will gladly provide my info. My EFC was really low, lower than 100 since my dad’s job took a downturn last year. I don’t know if you being a transfer affects your packet. The cal grant was included in my packet with the pell grant as well. Good luck!

Thanks MedalLily! Hope to see you on campus in the fall :)

Glad to help. See u there!

so i got just a pepperdine university grant and an alumni grant to cover 25ish k of my first year…and the rest is covered by calgrants and fafsa…
so what does that mean for my second and third and fourth year?

It means that beyondwhatever scholarship is guaranteed for you that grants and loans will be based off your yearly FAFSA. You have to reapply each year & the amounts can varie from year to year.

Assuming that your financial situation doesn’t change drastically, your financial aid package should be about the same for all four years.

I’m curious about the stats of all the scholars.

Does anyone know where to find info on Pepperdine’s website about the Dean’s Scholarship?I’ve looked all over and can’t locate it. My D was a Dean’s Scholar, and I’d like additional info. (The letter was rather brief and vague.) Do you know how many there are, for example? Is the amount of $ given the same to each scholar? Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I know that not all the recipients get the same aid. Its a combination of merit and financial need.

Each Dean’s scholar receives $11,000 a semester for up to 8 semesters. It is the second of two academic scholarships given out by Pepperdine, and the first one is the Regent’s scholarship, where you get $13,000 a semester. I would say there’s probably, in the freshman class, 25-30 Regent’s scholars. I doubt there is many more Dean’s scholars than that.

Fall 2009 freshman class Merit Scholarships/grants = 81

average merit aid of these 81 schlarships = $21,015

for all full-time undergrad the above figures are 561 scholarships/grants at an average of $16,964

http://www.pepperdine.edu/institutional-effectiveness/facts-figures/CDS2009_2010.pdf

Interesting that 11% of freshman class gets merit aid, but 18% of total undergraduate student body get merit aid

I’m pretty shocked my son didn’t receive any offer of merit aid or scholarship, only loans. His SAT’s are 2080; GPA at a very challenging prep school 3.93, Six AP classes all with 4/5 scores. 4 years Latin, varsity tennis player, etc. Bye Bye Pepperdine

JohnAdams12 - There are departmental scholarships, music scholarships, etc that are “merit based” but not the same academic scholarships upon acceptance. That clear things up?

Yes, it clears things up perfectly clear. My son won’t be going to Pepperdine. They’re looking for well-off families to subsidize the college and possibly their financial aid commitments. Why would anyone pay for a college like Pepperdine when there are many significantly better schools out there willing to work with ALL families and reward those kids that deserve it?
