So back when I was applying to A&M, I also applied for scholarship. I'm sure that they received my scholarship application because I even have an e-mail from them saying "scholarship application received." So what's going on? Have people heard back about scholarships yet? Does this mean that I'm not going to get any scholarship at all?

If you haven’t heard anything by now, then more than likely you won’t be receiving one. Dept. Scholarships are pretty much all that are left.

Did you turn in your fafsa?

yes, and merit scholarships do not hinge on fafsa just to let you know since that is often a misconception.

oh ****

no, i haven’t turned it in yet. i plan to do it today. god dammit, i’m ****ed

btw, what exactly is a dept. scholarship?

scholarships given out by like the Business school or engineering school

you know and vice versa

what i mean is, you dont have to turn in fafsa to get a merit scholarship, but most of merit scholarships have been given out already.

Look on your financial aid portal in the Howdy website. (Applicant tab, top right if you haven’t rearranged anything). Make sure you’re on the 2010-2011 school year tab, then click on “awards”. Anything TAMU has offered you should be listed, including loans and scholarships. Though loans might not be there since you haven’t done the FAFSA yet. Deadline to accept all aid is May 1st.

matt- i don’t see the financial aid or awards tab. do i have to make my decision in order to see it?

no it should be on the Howdy Portal, if you can see your deadline then maybe you didnt get any scholarships?

All dept scholarships are already out from what I hear. However thare are still a few scholarships - colleges, and university level that they expect to announce end of the month from what I hear ( I called yesterday to find out , but did not get any other details than what I mentioned). MAy 1 is the SIR deadline but they may not announce the remaining scholarships by then – what a bummer.

****! (10char)

The portal does list merit scholarships before the FAFSA is turned in, but I don’t think it will show any loans available until they have the FAFSA.

There are still possible scholarships from departments, and some of the separately applied for scholarships have not been announced yet (for example, my S applied for a separate scholarship from his specific engineering department.) The announcement for those awards were supposed to be announced already, but they are running late.

I was just awarded a scholarship today from the business school. **** GPA, high SAT. Keep hope alive.

Ds also got a call today and had his scholarship increased. I think as kids are saying no, it’s opening up resources for others who are on the fence.
