Thanks dstark, Barno & zacsrequiem. :)

My D just got notice yesterday of her Buckeye Plus and another scholarship - I forget the name. She too is awaiting word on Scholars, We visited for Scholars Day last weekend and she enjoyed it so much she said unequivocally that OSU is where she wants to go to school. The scholarships place her cost at about the same as in-state tuition and cost for UIUC.

Same here, daaaaad: With the scholarships, TOSU OOS costs are comparable with Penn State's in-state costs. Congrats to your daughter.

It seems like many of our kids are in the same boat. My S just received a scholarship letter awarding him the National Buckeye Plus and Trustees Scholarship. (Sigh of relief). Without the package, the cost of the school would have been double the cost of the in state tuition at SUNY Binghamton, and would have meant that TOSU was out of the question.
The last piece of the puzzle is word of possible acceptance into the Comm Tech Scholars program.

Good luck, our fingers are crossed for all of you out there awaiting word.

Barno, that's great. Congratulations.

That's great news, Barno--one more hurdle cleared!

Haha, we're all in the same boat.

I'm passing up a full ride to UF (because of residency - I'm not perfect by any means, lol) for TOSU - I'll take Buckeyes any day of the week over Gators. ;-)

Zac, in your mind, what makes OSU so much better? or is it just the desire to get out of Florida? I'm considering giving up a full ride at OSU to attend a school more in the south, that's why I'm asking.

Essentially, yes - I want out of Florida. Florida is nice - for vacations. I miss seasons and a more traditional climate, to be honest. More importantly, I'm not a fan of ANY of the public universities here and there are only two public Architecture programs worth considering: one at UF and one at Florida Atlantic. I've visited both schools and I wasn't impressed with campus or the local area. It's just a personal environment issue. I've lived in Florida for quite some time and would like to try something new - AND TOSU's Arch. program is much more respectable.

Which school are you considering? I'm all for a change of climate for anyone - a new environment does wonders for you, imo - but Florida just doesn't have what I want right now. I speak Spanish, I like stylish, new things... but something is missing, heh.

Ended up with the Provost (GPA was not high enough to garner Maximus), and recently got the Pathways (had no idea that was coming). Hopefully this will be followed in March with a Morrill as well.

Congratulations kman1456!

im white and im going to maximus today...any other scholarship available to me?
going into chemical engineering as well

I've received

-Provost
-National Buckeye Plus
-Pathways (which I hope to cancel out with a Morrill Scholars offer)

Does anyone know if Trustees scholarship and Pathways are unable to be combined? I only ask because friends of mine received their letters for Trustees last week soon after I received my Pathways letter.

PLEASE NOTE for future applicants that you need not be a minority to apply for the Morrill Scholars Program. You must simply meet the academic criteria and have a commitment to diversity as expressed in your essays and recommendations for the program. I understand the commom assumption, but there are Caucasian partici pants in the MSP.

omg are you kidding me! too late to apply for morril?

Yes, it is too late. The due date was the application priority deadline (Dec. 1), but they took some late entries due to some technical difficulties this year. I'm actually black, but I like to do my research on things I'm being a part of. It's heard to be diverse while leaving out the legal majority.

ahhh wish i learned that over two months ago...

o well i doubt they would have taken a white kid still ;)
haha

I started this thread so I thought I would now add that my son did receive the National Buckeye Plus Scholarship and his timeline was similar to other posters.

Congrats to your son, dstark. :)

Thanks. I'm starting to like the cost of OSU. :)

Me too. I did our FAFSA online last night. I still haven't recovered from our "Expected Family Contribution"

:(
