Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

I have won for art, so I can’t. But I will message people who want to see my work links to photos…

Supposedly, California Writes is supposed to let the people who won Gold or Silver know via email by the 31st so… I guess I’ll just settle with checking my email every hour the next 5 days. I guess we’re all in this together to see who hears what and when. If anyone hears from California Writes, tell us here.

Oh, wow, American Visions/Voices seems like a huge deal! I’d be thrilled just to get a gold key.

Four more days until I hear results for my region! I wish I could just find out now.

I still haven’t figured anything out!! I heard my teacher knows but she hasn’t replied to any of my emails.

I am familiar with the California region. My daughter won last year when she was in seventh grade. The winners of gold and silver keys (not honorable mention)were notified by email on January 31 around 9 PM Pacific time. If this year is like last year, the email does not indicate what color key you won or how many you won. Although it is written that you will not find out this information unless you attend the California awards assembly, this is not true. A few days before the awards assembly, I found a list of winners, the title of their pieces, and the corresponding award on their website/online. I can’t remember if the honorable mention awards were listed at that time or not. Good luck to all the California writers. Unlike what is advertised on the national website, only about 3% of total submissions win gold keys in California.

There are more than 230,000 submissions this year.

@Moyera No, it gets more popular every year. I know my region had more submissions this year then in past years…

" 3% of total submissions win gold keys " Really? I though 10% submissions could win gold keys

@Cherryli2015 It varies by region, I know mine gives gold keys to about 7 percent. 10 percent is the maximum.

ArtsyGirl13: “It varies by region”-- that sounds not very fair. The number of golden key is determined by each region? or nation gives quotas to each region?

This is cut and pasted from the California Writes site, just above the pdf of the winners from 2012, 2011, and 2010, which includes HS and middle school.

Announcing the 2012 Honored Writers!

Out of over 1400 submissions,
52 Gold Keys, 76 Silver Keys, 139 Honorable Mentions, and 5 American Voices Nominees!

@cherryli2015 From my understanding it is a bit of both the region and national. National sets certain limits, but why would they give gold keys just for the sake of giving them out? It reflects poorly on the region when they fail to produce national winners, so they are not going to give more gold keys if they don’t think the work deserves it.

As for actual numbers I know last year for visual art my region had around 2000 submissions and 140 gold keys…

Didn’t win…

If you don’t win, do they still email you? I’m honestly so lost…

@ZombieDante I’m sorry :frowning:
@Aerobug No they only contact you if you win. The best way to know, is to find out if the winners have been announced for your region…

Aw, Zombie, I’m sorry D:

anyone hear back from the Hudson-to-Housatonic Writing Region?

Wait did anyone (or their teachers) hear back from the West region (California) yet?

NYC Art award winners are up! I only entered in writing categories though…

aHHHHHhhHHHhhHHhHHHHHhhhhHhHh

If NYC art winners are up, that means the writing winners will be up soon, oh my gosh so nervous mehhhh.
