i was just wondering if there are any workshops for the novel writing category during the national celebration in New York, and is it required for you to go to?

gloriousevo08 - have you been notified about the novel writing category yet?

There are a variety of workshops for all types of the awards from art to writing, they are not required, they post the list and you sign up when you check in . The earlier you check in, the more choice
The way they have done it in the past is you go to the Scholastic area in the hotel--it will be in the packet you get with your award notice what hotel etc. SO you go during the times that are listed, they check you in, give you your medal(s) and then you can sign up for workshops, tours etc. It is good to stay at the hotel that they have because everything revolves around that area. When you go to Carnegie Hall, you should be wearing your medal, all of the gold winners sit together and the families sit elsewhere. Hope this helps and congratulations

Have you won the novel gold award or something? They only issue one gold award, so it would at least put me out the misery of waiting if I know I haven't won!

no i haven't won anything i was only wondering because i have submitted something for the novel writing category, and if i won doing the workshops would conflict with something else that i have commited to during the summer, so yeah i was only wondering

amelia and glorious -- if either of you hear about the novel writing category, please post because I also entered and am waiting patiently. Somebody else on this forum said that they were called on May 1st (I think?) so maybe we don't have much longer to wait! EEK!

yeah, i was called in the first week of may last year about the novel writing category. i didn't receive anything in the mail until the 2nd or 3rd week of may though.

vegangirl - so what did you do after winning gold? did you finish your novel? are they going to publish it? oh, yeah - what's it about?

Notifications in Arcadia! ACK! I hate the mailman...he never wants to do my route so we have all these random mailmen that cover for him. Grrrrr. I can only anxiously hope that somehow this will get settled.

crossing my fingers in California

lol...that's better than having your neighbor deliver your sister's rejection letter from Princeton (before email) cause the mailman (again) put it in the wrong box.

No lie.

So is it all over? Or are we still hoping to win National? I'm still hoping - is that crazy? The letter said to wait until early May.

I wouldn't give up hope until they actually post all of the winners on the website in June. Their system sounds screwey.

Plus, if it gets to the middle of May, you can always call them.

has anyone heard anything about the novel writing gold award yet??

No i haven't it's killing me. I get all twitchy when the phone rings.

I still haven't heard about anything...and it's driving me crazy! I e-mailed them at WRAL to no avail...sigh

Well, the first week of May is over, and still no word. I wouldn't lose hope, though . . . they seem to be very far behind with the notifications this year, maybe even more so than usual.

I am almost positive notifications have gone out. I received mine a week and a half ago, I think, and I'm WRAL.

Thanks amelia, but it just seems like I lost. I can be gracefully about it and say that it happens to everyone at some point. :) I'm not worried, my portfolio is going to kick *** next year.

Thanks for the support everyone, someone should tell Scholastic what a migraine this is.

Sorry if I was unclear -- I was discussing the novel award when I mentioned not losing hope. It operates differently from nationals or region-at-large regional notifications, so it's not quite as clear-cut when you'll be notified. Again, apologies for the confusion, and sorry to all those who haven't been notified for RAL and regular nationals. Better luck next year!

so noone has heard anything for the novel category yet right??
