School and Major

Does being accepted to a school in the University of Pittsburgh also mean that you are accepted to the major of your choice? In my case, I was accepted to the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, but I do not know if I was accepted to the major of my choice, Computer Science.

Thanks for your responses.

In most cases, including yours, it doesn’t matter. Why? Because you don’t declare your major when you start as a freshman at the University. You have to take a variety of prerequisite classes before you can declare your major and enter into a department (for A&S this usually occurs sometime during your sophomore year). So in your case, yes you were accepted at Pitt now you can focus your schedule around completing all of the pre-req classes to declare into the CS department.

@AwesomeOpossum‌ Can you tell me what these pre requisite classes are? I am currently taking AP Calculus AB and AP Computer Science A in high school. Other mentions of classes related to my major that I have taken in my high school year are AP Chemistry, Digital Electronics, and Honors Physics.

@zaxway, Here is info about the general education requirements within the Deitrich School: http://www.as.pitt.edu/fac/teaching/general-requirements
